Are you sure the lock is working? Can you hear it lock/unlock? Cause the way you describe it, it sounds like what happened on mine... which ended up being the infamous bad motor in the lock mechanism. But mine was def not locking/unlocking... you can hear the lock motor going quite easily if you are standing back by the door. So the motor in mine had died in the locked position, but when I would grab the handle, it really would feel like it was gonna go, and that the door was just stuck. I figured the dead motor was so common, I had to just try there first. Pulled all the inside trim and banged on the motor a few times, pressed unlock, and voila! it unlocked and I could open the door. I then immediately pulled the lock mechanism and swapped out the little motor and have been good to go since.

Yeah so I pulled the panel and reached in there and got the door open, anyhow worked great for like 10min and then back to locked... So I think it's the motor. I bought a new motor and will try that, its only $6 try... Anyhow what a royal PITA to not have that door. Yes I can hear the lock working in there every time I press the button or use the key in the door to lock/unlock. Anyhow when I get home from delivering the new 80series I'll be tackling that...

I have been admiring your rig from afar. I have seen it at McCord, right after I bought mine(Had to replace the gas cap). And I have seen it on SR-14, coming from the "Shoug". Love your ride! I have a green GX.

Wave if you see me in passing. I see so many GXs, just never know if its another "soccer mom GX" or a enthusiasts DD...

ok so an update on the back door issue... and my bad luck. so it turns out everything worked just fine, and it was the cable that was the issue. it had some rust and other crud in it that was making it hard/difficult to work the handle/latch release -it had been this way from day one so i thought it was just normal. any how after hours of trouble shooting and removing the entire assembly and opening it up, cleaning and regreasing everything, replacing the motor and reassembling it and reinstalling it (like 4+ times) i finally figured out it was the cable that was all gummed up. after about 10min with some brake cleaner and PB blaster i had that cable working like new. wish i had done this sooner. what got me so modivated to get to the bottom of this was i had a brand new Warn Zeon 10s in the back of the rig and it got stolen, along with some other gear, pretty pissed about that, -second winch in like 3 years. i hate thieves, imo the only criminal worse than a thief is a child molester.

in other news i just installed a beltronics RX75 pro plus i had sitting in my garage for years. bought it brand new many years ago and never installed it. i figured it would be a good addition to the GX and the V1. as now i have laser jamming capabilities and dual radar. its funny cause now i have really calmed down my driving, i used to drive a lot faster but now that i have kids, i tent to be a little easier on the speed. but this will make it nice so i dont get "picked outta the crowd" on the freeway from state patrol -they almost never use radar up here for traffic anymore, its all laser -makes sense as by the time any laser detector gives off a signal its too late and you are got. -ive only had one traffic ticket from radar in my life, all the others have been from laser. ill post up some pictures tomorrow if the end result.

so today i redid my UHF/VHF radio. i remote mounted it in the same location that @DNGRZN did his. i will also be using his ideas for the remote mounting of the mic, although i think i will have mine come out the side of the center console just in front of the drivers seat down low. i stopped by HRO and picked up a couple mounts. one is a Diamond K515SNMO, its a luggage rack mount that i will initially use until muster up the courage to drill a hole in my roof. ill use the perminant roof mount 90% of the time, but when i put our cargo box on ill have to go back to the other mount. for an antenna i got the Comet CA-2x4SR as its highly rated and intended for SAR, but covers the 2/70 range. i also found out that my Anytone Smart CB that i bought can be converted to a us CB -its currently a euro CB on the 10m band and us CB is 11m... ill be doing a little more research before i do the mod to make sure i do it correctly but then i will have a CB as well. anyhow if @DNGRZN has anymore of the CAT jacks i would be very interested in the help...

pics to come as soon as i email them and down load them...

Wow, great job on the redo. I love the bar mount for the antenna. I am also going to run a second location antenna likely off the bumper, or find a way to ground the frame of the future roof rack and use it as a ground plane. As a thought, since you are considering running a drill through NMO through the roof, I made mine multipurpose. If you use this model of NMO base NMOKHFUD - Larsen 0-6000 Mhz 3/4in Mount with 17ft RG58/U, No Connector - ShopWiscomm

you can use the little flat pin inside to connect your dual band antenna to, and if you ever switch to a different antenna location, you can just pull the little pin in the middle out and use higher frequency antennas. I had planned to either use it for a dedicated triple trunking scanner antenna, or an externally mounted GPS base antenna. All possible with the 0-6000Mhz base. The antenna cable itself also offers better shielding than some of the others. The NMOKHFUD is the standard issue on all cop cars.

Since you wondered about those pass through jacks, I looked up my order sheet and found them here. Amazon.com: Switchcraft EHRJ45P5E EH Series RJ45 Cat 5e Unshielded Feed Through Connector: Electronics and if you just wanted the crimp on ends, I have some and you are welcome to them, I just have to find them in my "ginormous bin o wiring bits" in the shed. Pretty sure I have the 4 pin RJ22 connectors too.

When you get ready to drill that roof hole, not sure how much experience you have with that kind of thing, but there are about 100 youtube videos that show you the wrong way, or the more wrong way to make that happen. If there is a video showing the right way, I haven't seen it yet. I'd be happy to talk it over with you, or help. I am hesitant about posting instructions in case someone does it wrong and blames me for it. Maybe I will make a video of it sometime.

Are you considering going in on one of those Incognito winch mounts from WGW? I am pretty much just dying for them to get released. I want to at least try it and see what I think.

Oh and on your rear door...the lack of a inside release on that door is something I consider to be a real downfall of the design, especially once drawers are installed in the back and you cant get in to fix it if the motor fails. I am planning to use this Remote Hood Release Cable
to run from inside into the rear door as a backup release system. Cheap insurance (and I also want to let myself out when I sometimes sleep in there until I get my RTT).

Most of those Euro radios are easy to hack, but the FCC is pretty much dicks about operating a euro radio here, especially out of band. That said I run a President euro 10/11 meter rig, and it is a rock star. I have a ground or tree based antenna system I can string up if I run that in the woods. Though there are a lot of Yahoo's on the CB side making a mess of the band much of the time. Fun to play with though. Do you use much 10/11meter in SAR around here?

Hope you are having fun on the upgrades. I'm waiting on a few schedule updates from people and then I'll be able to try to plot something with you. Oh, and if you make it down to Portland, just say hi, I'm right near Emmanuel Hospital. ( I wrote a lot, I must not want to be doing more homework)

Fixed the link to the passthrough connector.

I am always down in Portland... I was just down that way today... And will be going down again tomorrow to go back to ham radio outlet (HRO). I need to get an external speaker.

No we do not use 10/11m in SAR, as its not enough power output. But there are enough idiots around here who think that cb is the bees knees and all they need that it would be nice to have a 10-15w 11m... I mean 4w 11m. Anyhow yeah I'd love to get those connectors from you if I could. My antenna should be here Thursday or Friday and then I'll be up and can really start learning more about this stuff.

I think I'm also gonna run a low "drip" loop in the cable before I pass it through the grommet into the rig so that way any water won't fallow up into the truck.

Thanks for the heads up on that other NMO mount. Would that work for a dedicated 3g/4g internet receiver/antenna, say similar to the Laird tec phantom antennas?

Nice. I will Send you my number at some point. It should, if there is an nmo cell antenna base. A quick search says yes the antenna exists. US 3g/4g are on 700, 1700-2100, 1900, and 2500-2700Mhz frequencies, all under 6000, so should be gtg.

The kfud nmo base is designed for radio and for mobile data terminals (runs on cell data at 800Mhz) so I'm sure it's good.

I hear you on people thinking cb is the bees knees tho. Folks in Louisiana did too, that and frs/gmrs radio. They learned during Katrina that everyone talking on the same 40 channels made it so no one could actually listen. Just cross talk. That more than anything is why I went ham.

The drip loop is a great idea. I was thinking I hadn't pondered punching through there, but I like it.

I'll go poke around the shed when the lights come on tomorrow and try to dig up those connectors. I also have some clip on ferrite chokes I can give you. I bought too many at hro.

Do you have the special crimpers or will we be building cables someplace sometime soon?

Cool to have a GX driving SAR guy who is also a ham just the other side of the river.

I have an electrician friend who is making me some CAT5 cables for me as I don't have to tools or means to make the ends, for now its just gonna be to get me up and running. I'm sure we can work something out and redo the ends...

What radio are you running? I can look up the specs for fun. Nice to have buddies with the goodies.

Anytone AT-5888-uv I needed a radio that was part 90 compliant but also a dual band. A few guys in our SAR group already had it and so we made the decision to go in and do a bulk order/group buy that way we could get cost down a little, and have all the radios unlocked to be able to talk on the public safety freqs. It's nice because now we can go to anyone's radio and know exactly how to use it.

Great Him, once you drill that hole in your roof, I'd be interested in that luggage rack mount. Just don't have the balls to drill into a perfectly good roof....

Did some more work on the rig today. Today I went back down to HRO and picked up an external speaker, a blue sea fuse block, and some 8awg power wire. I ran 6awg from the battery to the new fuse block, then the 8 to the radio. I grounded the radio to the chassis in the rear fender so I only used 10awg for the ground. Still it's way bigger wire than what came with the radio so I'll be fine(originally its just 14awg).
I had a slight mishap with my battery connection, its a long story but the stud on the clamp where the wire mounts came lose and would just spin and spin... So I had to solder it, seams to be working but I gummed up the threads on the stud and so I'll probably just have to buy a new one. That took a fair amount of my time so I didn't get as much done as I wanted. This evening after dinner I got the external speaker wired up and mounted. So now I'm just waiting on my CAT5 cables, and my antenna.

Here is a pic of where I put the external speaker.

Oh and I did a little research on my "cb" that I bought only to find out its a 10m.... Anyhow I found that the freqs are mirrored of the the 11m cb but just down on the 10m band, so I did a little soldering and converted it to the 11m and so now I have a cb that is pushing 8-10w... Now I just have to get a swr meter and tune the cb antenna. I also posted some pics of my AnyTone smart CB(the one I just converted).

Sorry I'm not gonna get rid of that mount. I'll need it for when I put my cargo carrier up top and will have to remove my antenna from the center of the roof. But you can get them on Amazon.

Nice, I like that little CB, I mean Amateur radio. That is a nice buy! My President HR2510 that does AM/FM/CW/SSB 10/11 meter is old school and has great wattage, but it is a tank. I may have to dedicate that to a backup radio at the house and jump into one of these Anytone radios. There is a cool looking one that does all that my President does and then some, but smaller and cleaner. You're giving me ideas for future buys!

You also reminded me that I needed to install the MARS/CAP update that came from Kenwood for my radio to be handy in SAR situations.

Sweet new radio kit man, I hope you are enjoying putting it in, and that your antennas arrive soon!
