What's going on at CruiserMatt's Off-Road

Been slowly getting our wesite to reflect more of our offerings to increase our online sales, I finally got my photo situation figured out so now it's the tedious task of going back and updating tons of pictures with watermark/brand
Some neat addtions lately. I am really really stoked on the FJ62 fuel pump hangers, there was a huge demand for those.

The categorization is actually not new, it’s just only on the home page. I really need to work on adding a side bar so the carergories can be easily accessed later. There’s been a few other limitations I’ve had with my site template that have me consider re-templating soon.

Seeing as it is the end of the year I figure I could do another update but don’t have much to say other then things are going smoothly! We are up 6 team members + me (3 techs, service manager Aidan, two in engineering/custom/parts development).

A few of the services we now offer is in-house 3D printing which has cut our prototyping time and cost in like a 5th. I was way behind the ball on this. It had also been invaluable for shop tools, desk feet, etc

We also got an injector machine so we can test fuel injectors on the fly. We are getting a lot of 3FE’s with original injectors not flowing properly so we now are stocking rebuilt and tested 3FE and 1FZ injectors and doing exchanges.

We also recently picked up a used Hotsy steam pressure washer for a great price. Very excited about this and it will work great with the lift #6 going up in the back yard hopefully very soon.

Parts sales.
This has become my full time job this year.
We are stocking and selling more and more parts every week. I’ve known for awhile that for this company to grow to what I want it to it ultimately needs to become a parts company with a boutique shop attached rather then the other way around. This year it is really starting to feel like I am on my way, getting more and more website orders, phone orders, repeat customers both private and wholesale coming to us for everything for their fleets, it’s starting to look like this outside every day at UPS pickup time.

The big killer now is I never really set up a dedicated shipping area so the office is the shipping, receiving, lounge, inventory AND customer. That’s one of our current killers we need to fix.
I never intended to stock large parts like fuel tanks, radiators, etc which I am now so that has been a challenge.
We actually even filled the bathroom with parts
Once we get the space situated figured out I think I’ll be ready to hire some dedicated parts staff.

Did a few more swaps.

We pretty much have a 60/62 Gen 3 or Gen 4 conversion with either a H55, 4l60e or 6l80e, with either drive by cable or drive by wire, down to zero fabrication or figuring is reacquired. You just need to be able to weld the motor mounts in. We know have brackets for fuse blocks, DBW pedals, pre-selected radiator hoses, pre made AC hoses, etc etc

Lift #6 went up off today.. still need to wire it and get the arms modified, painted and installed, probably won’t be till February. Just really wanted to get this off the ground since I bought it and the other two lifts in the second batch in March.

This should be huge for our quick maintenance and inspections. Now every spot to work on a vehicle here has a lift!
Not many dedicated Land Cruiser shops that can say that I think.

Wish you a great New Year Matt 😎

Earlier this week we also tackled another big project, taking everything off the pallet rack (the majority of my used parts inventory), cleaning everything, floor, rack, etc, adding another section of racking over my personal bench/toolbox in the front corner, and doing a complete reorganization of all of the used parts into our outdoor cabinets generously donated by Dominick D earlier this year. This whole process took Aidan and I about three whole days.

I definitely have more used parts then I ever have, but the good news is this round of cleanup I scrapped/tossed very little, almost everything I’ve been storing has been good, worthwhile parts, I haven’t really been storing any actual junk.

I am however getting a very good idea of my par levels for some of this stuff so would like to slowly start slimming down my used inventory more and more and focus on growing my new parts inventory.

Earlier this year I sent two pallets of transfer case cores to Valley Hybrids and this week traded three 2F’s to Mosley.. no need for me to have stacks of stuff like that anymore

Transitioning all these parts down to these easily accessible outdoors cabinets will hopefully help me cycle them out with a lot higher frequency and not just take up space like they were on the pallet racks where it took a lot more effort to get to them..

The beginning of this year it felt like it was all 80’s/100’s in the shop.. and then the last few months it’s totally flipped and has been almost all 40’s/60’s. Colombian/Venezualan 40 series keeping us very busy as usual.. I think we have five at the shop right now.
They are always very good for business since we learned how to really do “advance planning” and setting customer expectations properly.

What else was cool this year.. oh, I bought this completely built LX450 roller.
This is the semi-famed former LBZ Duramax 80. I have a L96/6l80e combo I’ll be having my guys put in hopefully 1st quarter. And then a general clean up, drive it for a few months and then put it up for sale.
I’m not normally into snorkels but I am excited about this custom 5” deal the PO built.

Matt are these SA cruisers getting any better ? They sure look great setting in your shop.

Matt are these SA cruisers getting any better ? They sure look great setting in your shop.

They are usually really badly put together. Which is good for us as a repair shop and parts business.
They have generally been really good business for us as long as the owner is on the same page as us during the work planning process

We are getting a lot of repeat business as well, for example the olive green 40 in the picture inside my shop we did a lot of work two about two years ago, the owner has been happily enjoying it as a daily driver since then, he is having us update his AC to the latest Vintage Air Gen 5 currently. So just a fun upgrade.

Good to see you still have your own tools 👀

CruiserMatt's is the title sponser for the ONSC Carolina Relic Run event this year. I really hope to see a huge Florida turnout.
It's really too bad Florida folks can't pull it together enough to have events like this
