hi there

Toying with idea of picking up the 97 lx450. Has lockers and Ome suspension and winch. Vague maintenance records but claims engine rebuild. 182,000 miles and looks in decent shape minus rusty running boards. Listed at $13,xxx in California.

What is fair value?

Thanks
Mike

$13k sounds about right.

Take a hike Phil. "Rusty" is probably nothing in California. To me $13k seems high but these days who knows? I wouldn't worry about the so-called " rust" unless the truck lived in Michigan. Take a look at it and read Slee's web site about what to look for.

As always with all these threads... we need more info and/or pictures.

Interior?
tires?
bumpers?
dings/dents/pinstripes?
accessories?
receipts?
who did the rebuild?

Otherwise $5000 - $15000 range.

Thanks everyone for the replies....

Used 1997 Lexus LX 450 in San Luis Obispo CA | VIN: JT6HJ88J3V0177300

I took for a bit of a test drive and seems pretty solid

I did have the Lexus dealer pull their computer records....showed need for attention in 2014

DIff switch worked dash lit up. I didn't drive too far with them engaged since the dirt lot was small and not very loose

the AC blower fan was LOUD on high and seemed unbalanced and the mirrors shook in the housings at highway speed.

I may take for inspection on friday....

"customer declined service" = half the asking price.

He probably did not do a lot of PM, ignored or deferred a lot of work which you will have to to.

OME and a rebuilt engine do not alone bring the price that high up.
I would offer 50% of the asking price and be willing to go up to maybe $8000. (all depending on a closer inspection of the vehicle).

If you add front and rear aftermarket bumpers and do all the maintenance I can guarantee another $5000 will go into it.

Looks like it needs a knuckle rebuild (very common) and is leaking either from the oil pump seal and/or power steering pump...both which are common as well with these. Cool that it has a winch. Looking at the pics, and assuming it drove well and the engine felt and sound strong, I would probably be happy with $10k ? Hard to say really... Looks nice inside.

Remember tax and dealer costs.

I am in SLO and would be happy to check it out. Maybe offer them a low ball and see where they are willing to go.

Took me almost 2 years to find one I was happy with. Not many of these in our parts.

To me a engine rebuild is a serious negative. Unless I did it my self or it was done by Slee/ Robbie/ACC or one of the other few that I trust.

crazy white people. $3500. Unless there is some info that the motor was actually rebuilt and not a hatchet head gasket job. Then @ajax1 edges me out by $1.
