I plan to change from Castrol 10-30 to Chevron delo 400 15-40, to try and get better pressure. Plus clean sensor contacts or maybe change sensor.

I would be great information to know what oil others are using.

Tons of threads-and opinions-on the matter. Search “Low oil pressure needle” or similar in the forum and you'll can be overwhelmed....
But if you are worried enough to replace the sensor, perhaps you want to also check the oil pump (many good threads on that matter). In any case remember that whatever oil grade you end up selecting should be the adequate for the ambient temperature where you drive
FWIW, I live in the South East. The oil pressure needle in my dash moves from 75% when cool or at moving speeds to 25% at idle and warm. I've always used Mobil-1 5-30 (Toyota's recommended grade). Change it every 5K. Never observed oil consumption (152K on odometer and counting). The engine runs really fine. I do not plan to modify my current schedule... if ain't broken....
Cheers

5w-30 in Portland, OR area. It doesn't get that cold and I don't have oil pressure issues. And like @fj80pb said, it is what is recommended. YMMV

15w-50 holy cow that gets runny when hot.... I would be afraid to use oil that viscous when hot in the 1fz. Im running 10w40 and think I will step down to 10w30 to try and quiet the engine down some.

Is your pressure below spec or does your gauge simply look like its reading low? My OEM gauge has always looked lower than normal but when a mechanical gauge is hooked up under hood I'm within spec.

After trying 0w-40 Mobil 1 and having consumption issues I moved to 5w-50 Diesel Tuck Mobil 1. Engine has been happy with that for 125K.

.... I would be afraid ...

Then don't do it!

The "for everyone else but USA" oil selection chart for the 1FZ.

AU viscosity chart
1FZFE motor
20w50 oil- -7C deg to 38C plus ; 19F to 100F plus
15w40 oil -10C deg to 38C plus; 14F to 100F plus
10w30 oil -18C to 38C deg; 0F to 100F
5w30 oil -30C to 8C deg; -22F to 46F

I've run mostly Mobil1 15W-50, though right now have a fill of 0W-40.

I don't think the 1 FZ is picky about oil, so pick a good one and change it on a schedule.

10w 30 in the Sonoran desert.

I have been thinking about bumping up to 15w50 mobil 1. I currently run 10w40 because of the exact reason you listed above; all countries but USA have those specs. Reason being EPA regulations on fuel economy. Why does every engine in the US use 0w30 now? if you sell 1 million cars. .5 mpg saved per car because of thinner oil adds up FAST to meet EPA fuel economy standards for "fleet" economy.

Rotella 15w-40. Nice and cheap haven't had any problems. I decided to use due to the chart that Tools R Us posted above. Going to go down to a 5w30 for the winter here which is good because it keeps me on top of my changes for the seasons rather than mileage.

I've been using Mobil 1 10W-30 since I got my 94 FJ-80 at 14,000 miles. Still have good compression at 393,000. I'll change the oil every 10 to 15K. Not changing the brand it's worked so far. At this point it's the small things that are starting to show their age.

Can't argue with results like this.

Valves rattled badly with Rotella 15w-40. Now rattle less with Pennzoil 10w-30. I want less rattle.

Poor guy, didn't know what he was getting himself into. One of the more fun:worms:on MUD possibly. Factory recommended here...for now :hmm:.
