What kind of dog food do you feed your dog?

did someone already post a link to this: Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble
possibly the most relevant thing eric ever posted :D
we switched to the orijen, supposed to be one of the best dry foods made
good site, because you can search what you are feeding and see what is in it, why it's good and bad, etc.

Reviews are fine but results over time are what matter. Sydney has been on Iams Large Breed(puppy, then adult) for years - now the Proactive variety. She's rock solid, gorgeous, glossy coat, firm, well-formed stools, bright white teeth, good energy, don't even recall the last time she threw up or went "runny" - just doesn't happen - now 7 yrs old. In addition, she gets some wild sockeye salmon, blueberries, Stoneyfield Farms non-fat plain yougurt, and Harry & David's popcorn after we pop it. Feeding a dog doesn't break the bank so options abound - just see no apparent reason to change from what is working for her - results matter.

My 1st dobie started on Hundchen Flocken/Solid Gold, @ $45/30lb bag. Switched after moving back to NM & having to drive 70miles to get SG. [x2 on make sure the food you choose is available where you choose to take your dogs.]

Been feedin Purina Pro Plan Chicken & Rice to dobers for almost 10yrs now, adults get 1.5 cups 2c/day (w/water to reduce bloat potential.) PP Performance for pregnant girls & working dogs, PP Lite & sodium free canned green beans for 'snausage' looking dobers.

Current dobers get carrots as after-eating treats; I've also had dobers who liked banana, apple, grapes off the vine, corn on the cob (the word "nibble" plays a big role in this) ... citrus isn't a big hit but they sure do make a funny face! And of course, "last bites" of whatever I'm eating.

Only dry food for Dobers. Bil-Jac, Science Diet or Eukanuba, no cheap crap for my Dobergirls & Wiemauraner :D

Man did you butcher that. Do you really own a Weimaraner?

Austin - I feed my Vizsla and Weim Costco's food. It ranked pretty highly using that lady's formula - higher than Iams or Science Diet - and you can't beat the price (about $22 for 40lbs.). I fed Eukanuba when they were puppies.

You may want to force him to get up and move around or walk him. I've had a dog grieve itself to death after his compadre got killed.

x2, take him to the park, get him distracted

I have fed eukanuba, and wysong (talk about expensive!!) but they did not crap as much and when they did it was small, and disolved in one week,,

I have known about the recycling of pets into food, and that disturbs me,,

Now I own a restaurant so my dogs (7 of them, and 2 pigs) get the restaurant table scraps from customers and the stuff we dont use in the kitchen (lettuce ends covered in some bacon fat, trimmings from the rib roasts and the nystrip loins we cut,,, they love that,,etc,) and stuff we need to throw away, either bad food or too small to serve,,

this can be good and bad, my pit, spike went into kidney failure 2 years ago, I did not realize what I was about to do was the worst thing possible, as he also had an enlarged prostate, we had some salmon going bad, I baked it and fed it to him, (like 12 #) appraently the high protein content of the salmon was really hard on his kidneys and sped up his demise :bang:

my blue heeler is a turd gurgler too.

kind of pisses me off since i spend an arm and a leg on food to keep her dumb ass free of that lkind of foul stuff

but at least the yard is clean

she loves donkey s*** and cat s*** the best[/QUOTE

a new steamin pile of horse dung gets every dog excited,,,

the prestone comment is not funny

I used to feed them iams adult then they seem to eat every avacado that fell on the ground and not touch their food:rolleyes: went to lamb and rice and they love it. Until the fall when there are more Avacados:mad:

The skin, seed (and bark from the trees) from avocados is toxic to dogs.

Probably bigger dogs? Do they eat the skin?

They eat the whole thing... It even comes out looking like an half eatin avacado in their poop:eek: along with the kids undies and toys they have chewed up and eatin:rolleyes:

You live somewhere that avocados & snow both happen (in the proper season)??? Damn, I just get hot & burning, snow, then Mud, then back to hot & burning !!! Well, green chile for the next 6 weeks or so, but... I'm jealous!

We just switched our yellow lab (80 lbs) from Iams to Nutro. We were told it would reduce the shedding. No change in the shedding but his poops are smaller.

*****Update, if you have a lab you know how much they shed. Well, he's been on Nutro now for a couple months and his shedding has been reduced by my guess about 90%. I'm really amazed.

My lab used to also shed a TON before I switched to EVO. That stuff is expensive, but I think well worth it. Less shedding, less poop, and a healthier dog.
