What kind of dog food do you feed your dog?

I'd feed my dog raw if I had the time and wanted to spend the money to do it. I'm looking for a higher caliber dry dog food currently. Iams is the best that I have fed him to date. Chicken is the main ingredient in it, I believe.

did someone already post a link to this: Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble
possibly the most relevant thing eric ever posted :D
we switched to the orijen, supposed to be one of the best dry foods made
good site, because you can search what you are feeding and see what is in it, why it's good and bad, etc.

I did a bunch of research. I feed my golden Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul Senior. No "filler" or meat by-products like most other foods.

example from the site posted above
some guy said:
The first three ingredients of this food are named meat products. The first two of these are meat inclusive of water content which, once removed as it must be to make kibble, will leave these ingredients weighing around 20% of their wet weight. It is therefore likely that they are more accurately placed much further down the ingredient list.

The presence of a meat meal ingredient third on the ingredient list does increase our confidence in the meat content of the food. However, since this is followed by five grains and potatoes, the food begins to look rather grain-heavy. There are further meat ingredients 10th, 13th and 14th on the ingredient list, but these are too far down to represent a significant portion of the food.

The main grains are barley, rice (two forms), oatmeal and millet. These are primarily good quality grains that are low allergenic. Potatoes are a further carbohydrate and protein source.

Flaxseed is a good quality source of Omega 6 and Omega 3 essential fatty acids and the food contains a nice range of fruits and vegetables. We would prefer to see the use of whole eggs rather than egg product in the food.

We note the inclusion of fish meal preserved with Ethoxyquin (confirmed by manufacturer). Ethoxyquin is a chemical preservative banned or heavily regulated in use in human food because it is believed to be carcinogenic. We cannot recommend the use of any product using ingredients preserved with this chemical.

blue buffalo lamb and brown rice. we were feeding them wellness super 5 mix, but the buffalo brand is about $5 cheaper per bag, same quality, and they're gas/poop is much less.
blue buffalo is $40 for a 30lb bag at petsmart.

running a check on a lot of the foods mentioned in this thread gives some poor results
but I don't want to be that guy, so check them up yourself

I feel the same way.
I feed her any kind of meat but always raw. Its a dogs natural diet. If you feed them dog biscuits ,check the meat content.

FWIW our Bernese used to get Exclusive from Purina, It preety spendy but very good food. Can only get it at Star Purina dealers. Have switched her recently to Natural choice Chicken and rice. She is doing very well on it and the piles are small.

FWIW,
My aussie/border collie mix is coming up on 8 now, for the first few years she had science diet, Tried iams when she was 5 and found out rather quickly that she has a corn allergy, Back to science diet, Few years later we think she is developing an allergy to beef gluetin,
Now we are using california naturals, lamb meal and rice, No beef gluten and no corn= dog with a sensitive stomach being more happy.

they're dogs...they'll eat what you put in front of them...

My family's always used Royal Canin. Hunting breeds, mid sized. Fantastic food.

I used the same, but I found that it was too rich and went back to Euk for large breeds!
