78 FJ40 it's on the passenger side dangling down next to the frame almost even with back end of fender well.

It does not look familiar, so I'm saying not original. To where does the wire lead?

To the firewall next to the harness wiring bundle.

Looks like the base of the radio antenae where it anchors inside the body. John

Yep. I replaced my broken antenna in the same location. That's the inside clamp that the outside mount screws onto.

Ahh yes that makes sense. I don't yet have an antenna on my 40. Thanks peeps.

that is indeed an antenna wire - have the same clip on my 40
