so i want to give an offer on this land cruiser ( there aren't a whole lot of options here i panama) and i think this would be a pretty solid car, so the post saids its a 91 2L engine with a/c and 4x4 working good has almost half a million miles, and saids he uses it all day everyday. the car you can see has worn tires and need quite some love, what would a resonable price be for this one?

It all depends what you want .. but you gotta get, down here most ( much more if we are talking about 70 series ) are workhorses .. they got sell overpriced a the time by the dealer .. so to start with a steep price, the owner ( with poor maintenance ) like most Panamanians will try to get the most of it despite how it was use or keep .. ( maintenance wise ).

The local mentality it's not about the rig you use for X amount of years and you " depreciate it " to the end of those years .. naaaa it's like I have an " investment " and they will try to get the down payment for the next vehicle from the previous one ..

so back on the track .. plenty options for all budgets ..

They all sell so that is basically the value that other people pay for those there. If you want bang for your buck order a new Hilux, if you want a nice unique 70 series then order a new one, the older ones have been used hard and most need a ton of maintenance and tlc but for many folks there it is the only that they can afford and gets the job done. I have lived there and bought a new Hilux as a daily and had several used Cruisers to play with, there are good ones out there to but as a foreigner the chances are small you can get your hands on it before the locals do .

Just my 2 cents

I would actually really like one of those v8 twin turbo diesels but, if im asking for this cruiser its because i dont got the money for a new one

Hello,

Patience.

Most of the trucks for sale are overpriced, battered units in need of repairs. But there also good ones hidden among them. Keep looking.

Yes, it is customary out there to get the most money out of foreigners. Yes, locals have some more chance. However, locals are prone to bickering, and this trait can work for you. A foreigner making a good offer for a truck in decent shape certainly has some advantage over bidders willing to pay half the sale price. Provided you choose carefully and do your homework, of course.

Always remember that if you wait long enough and if you are vigilant a bargain will come along. I will spend months waiting for a car or bike I want to come along.
