I run the black unit and I run 19102-61030 rotor that I bought from Toyota. I never heard about a special or certain rotor that you should run.

rotor on right that came with the disty

LS = Lobe Sensing

you need to Run the NON-Anti Over Rev Rotor , one on Left

thank you, I read elsewhere to use the rotor on the left was because it did not interfere with the pertronix unit, can you explain WHY to not use the one on the right? at this point just curious and always learning! assuming maybe the extra metal of the one on the right causes issues with the pertronix unit?

the little 2 Antennia things will interfere with the Pertronix kit

Hi All, well I thought I would update this. I tried the LS pertronix unit in the stock disty and could not get it to work. Something is amiss with the pertronix unit. We are getting weak spark. I pulled the pertronix disty and installed an aftermarket electronic distributor and the engine fired right up. I am going to contact pertronix on monday and speak with them. The other aftermarket electronic distributor comes equipped with the electronic module already in place. So far so good. I am guessing maybe the LS version just won't work with the stock points disty for some reason. I guess it is also possible I got a faulty module?

That is not correct.
It works just fine.
You need to replace the rotor.

I used the specified rotor. I am simply reporting my findings at this point. Pertronix has told me that this module does not work with the distributor number I gave them and it did not work in the distributor from partsouq. They have told me to use the standard 1662 module.

The LS stands for Lobe Sensing

I bought the first pertronix for the new 61180 dizzy many years ago when racer started offering it

The center magnet disc in the old kit part # wore a hole groove deep in. The center under it

I worked with a tech at pertronix to find a solution

They mailed me several different kits

Only the LS lobe sensing kit with NO center magnet disc worked as it should they also coughed up for a new replacement 61180 without being asked in any way
Also wrote me a check for the original non-LS kit

See the 61180 is a MED cap dizzy and the old kit was based off a USA spec med cap like on a 77-78 FJ40

That’s a class act company and I believe in the pertronix brand name 💯 %

Reviving an old thread, looking for some answers, planning on purchasing a 19100-61080 distributor from city racer, and putting a pertronix unit in it, and a bit lost, does the LS version work with this unit? I asked city racer directly and they said they don’t have any info on Pertronix. Any direction would be a huge help thanks.

Should work just fine.

If i recall correctly.
You need the lobe sensing version in that dissy.
I started off with the other pertronix kit first and it started eating itself.
An email to pertronix, and a photo showing proof of destruction of the old unit and a new lube sensing unit was enroute to me.
6 years and 25,000 trouble free miles later, all is still good.
