EDIT: A rain storm came through last night and the increase in humidity shrank the top to the point where it is very tight and smooth. I was surprised how much the top shrank. OCD Beetle cloth top.
Looking forward to meeting some other FJ40 owners at this year's SAS. There weren't many of us with FJ/BJ40s at last year's event. I'll be bringing my newly-completed FJ60 this year.
Not starting my rig for a few weeks and constant accessories “on” for testing in connection with getting all of my lights properly functioning means one of my dual batteries is at 72%. Now feeding it some charging juice and putting my baby down for a few hours— sweet dreams my little 40
Forgot to mention that I got my windshield washer going today (busy weekend on the 40)— works like a champ. Issue was a bad ground at the switch— thanks to an old MUD post for helping to troubleshoot this (I think it was one of Coolerman’s post). Anyway, pump works great for being nearly 50 years old (not that it was used a lot)
Beautiful work, but aren't you building it too rigid ?
I have always been told that chassis and subframe have to be able to flex in order not to brake, too strong and rigid would give breakage on the weakest strongest spot.
Check the Bilstein website. They go boot down to keep the oil against the seal and the pressurization gas in the top welded closed area. Less chance to lose pressure over time that way.
Spending the day at home supervising my neighbors construction of a new common fence. Getting to do some detail work on the 45. The only shade is under the truck!
Finally got to Montreal area (Three Rivers) to deliver a 18.5 foot Sea Kayak on the top of my 78 FJ40LV-KCJA, traveled 600 miles in 15 hours.
Long day! Canadian roads are so much better than US roads. I did hit an uneven pavement and the front end started oscillating, I really thought I was going to lose it. The truck has seemed like it wanted to wonder before, didn't like gravel roads or bad roads as we have in Maine. So last Thursday I installed 3 degree wedges between the leaf springs and front axle leaf spring mounts, and I have to say it's like night and day, the truck now tracks straight, handles gravel and uneven paved roads quite well. I guess the 1 degree positive castor is easily changed when adding new or after market parts.
