gave my 45 a hug and parked it for the winter

:crybaby: This is sooo wrong in so many ways, these vehicles are what should be driven in the winter. If salt is/was the reason I would protect the body/frame better not stop driving it.

Drove two hours (in the Mazda) to pick up a new transfer case for my 75, since my original self destructed. Got to meet a fellow MUD member and FJ40 enthusiast as a result. Road trip well worth it!

Now hopefully all I need to to is reseal it with my seals/gaskets from Kurt, reinforce it with my case savers from Georg, and reinstall it. Hoping the Clustertruck will be back on the road (and more importantly, in a garage) by Christmas!

Wife and I drove it around all weekend. Makes me sooooo happy to have it running good again. Down all summer and finally got everything sorted out and fixed up.

And I lost the keys for my car soooo looks like I'll be driving the cruiser all week until I find the keys. I'm OK with that!

Got stuck and got out (the last pic is out)... And understood why power steering is a good thing after about 40 times going lock to lock just to get an inch further. The wheel would barely turn stuck in the rut I was in! It's winter but I was sweating like a pig stripped down to my t-shirt- windows open.

I love my winch but it seems there is never anchor to pull to when I need it!

Look into a land anchor. I've never seen one, but the pics Ive seen make me think something like that may have been useful in this situation.

I haven't played with it enough to know if it is viable yet, but I cut up and welded some steel rod to make a spike for the ground to winch against. One suggestion was to weld some additional sheet metal for sword like wings, but that would make it more difficult to remove as well.

Found some new to me 33 10.50 boggers on AR rock Crawler wheels on CL. Next on the list is Longfields :hillbilly:

I got one last ride in on a nice sunny CA December day with the top off.

Then I drilled out broken, rusty bolts. 10 of them between my tub and roof cap. The $20 kit I bought on advice of the guy at Ace worked for exactly one of them, and it was in the drilling phase. Any of them that I got to the extractor phase were in too tight to extract and I had to drill anyway. Then I tapped every one of those holes. 30 of them? I credit tunes and beer for my success.

Sent a D40 off to Mark, to be used on a 74 2F.

I'm thinking about making an anchor. I think pulling it put will be a chore no matter what. I was thinking to have an attachment for the hi-lift to pull it up with. Now that I've said that I figure I could just sharpen the end of the hi-lft and hammer that into the ground and use it to pull itself out when I'm done.

Nice land anchor !

Instead of pounding the anchor vertically down into the ground, couldn't you set it at something like 45-60*? Then as you pull with the winch the pulling action would pull the anchor deeper into the ground (heavy sheet metal wings might give more surface area to pull against). Then when the vehicle is out, and beyond where it was stuck, you could connect the anchor to the back of the vehicle and pull the anchor out of the ground.

This is just theory at this point as I have no experience with any of this.

went to Christmas party for wasatch cruisers and had a blast. good white elephant gifts and great food. showed of my new bumper too!
That sounds fun! Wish I was up there with you guys. I miss out on all the Cruiser Oufitter fun. Been working on Kurt for a while now to do a Southern Utah run.

changed the tires and wheels from OEM chrome with 33x9.5 AT's to OEM gray/hubcap wheels with BFG 33x10.5's........what a difference in looks and driving......I was WRONG, 33x10.5's work just fine on a 5.5" wheel ;)

Looks awesome! That is exactly what I am doing right now. Old mismatched tires are coming off the rims tomorrow so I can blast them and send them to powder. Got a new set of hubcaps here. New rubber ordered, same as you with KM2 33's
