This would’ve been great while I was looking for answers. My trouble is I don’t know this platform well enough to know how much overlap there is between fj40s and my hj47. It seems there’s quite a bit of overlap
So long as you use a top brand HEI, I think you'll be fine. I put a generic DUI in my LX back in Australia and it lasted about a year. I replaced it with a Davis DUI and that one lasted many, many years without issue. I did always cary a coil unit with me though.Now you got me worried…. Or maybe it’s the curse of the MDH.

Rear fuel tank. Had it and the main tank (under seat) powder coated Red.
I’ve discovered how much that front driver-side kick panel speaker mount annoys me. Everytime I step on the clutch it skews my foot due to the speaker bulge and I can’t afford for my foot to slip off the pedal and become an issue. Found a new spot where it actually works well. While the passenger side mount is fine and who needs any real stereophonic balance in a 40 anyway….works great ..sounds fine on the B pillar
I found one cheap and felt bad afterwords. It was magical putting it on and seeing it. Where I am from, it is definately a unicorn.
Trying to save a few bucks to by refreshing a set of wheels I had sitting around. Some areas of the bead on one wheel are definitely questionable, but I’m gonna send it.
Reporting back on the “Speedometer Correction Device”
Installation was easy. It just screws in place of the speedometer cable. It is a touch tricky due to the parking brake cable being in line with it as well but it’s no major interference.
Comparison is : my speedo was about 20% slow on the dash. Keeping the phone app for speedometer showed 40 on the dash, 48 on the GPS.
After the install. Near perfect. 40 is 40. 39 is hard to read with needle movement but between the new 3.70 gearing in the diff’s and the 31” tires she spot on for me
Can’t recommend this enough if your concerned about a speeding ticket in those tricky 25mph zones or others like it.

So, did you install a speedhut multi gauge?
No it was Commercial Speedometer Company in Sacramento.
It fit on the transfer case between the speedometer drive unit and the cable $130.00? With shipping. If I remember
Interesting. so you calibrate it based on what you read on a speed app? mine of clearly off too. I run 31 tires and at some point 3.70 gears as well.

When I called Greg at Commercial I’d already had the difference in speed already written down. In the last 9 months that I have used the phone gps app, they were always about 20% off. I told him, what vehicle and he did the rest. Told me it would be in the mail the next day and it was here from California in 3 days
It had even been confirmed several times by those signs that say. “ Speed Limit 40….YOUR Speed 48”. Lately, there are several of them on a few back roads I frequent. And these are some really nice 50-55 mph country roads so of course they post the limits at 35. Then they use this sign also …” LIMITS STRICTLY ENFORCED: Mandatory court appearance for all moving violations”
NOW…these days you don’t need to drive to a municipal court… they make you go online and wait…and wait..and wait and you get to see all of the stories and deals that go on for 2-3 hours.
It’s just a lot easier to look at the dash when needed and not mentally figure it out

So. I am assuming that the difference in speed on your GPS APP and your gauge were the same on freeway speeds and around town speeds if moving at a constant rate?
I installed an old aux tank that I've had for a while in the 78. I'm not sure if it's a Downey or some other fab shop? Anyone recognize it?
Been wheeling 40s for 40 years and always wished I had more fuel capacity but couldn't bring myself to take the hole saw to the tub... so I hid it under the 4Wheel emblem
With the low fill neck position, it fills slow at the pump, but I'm a patient man...
Next, I'll fab an inner fender to protect the filler hose.

Spike a couple pieces of 2x6 one 8 and one 10. Pull up to the pump, stick the shim in front of the rear passenger wheel, pull up on the blocks, stop. Gas will pump in that aux a lot faster - 3 pieces is even better.
A little this a little that. Working on restoring the radiator air directing thingy’s (technical term), that bolt between the radiator and grill. Using high temp silicone. Painted the metal and will attach these once it’s cured for a few days.
Did you use the same mount??
