What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week? (36 Viewers)

Installed new Bilistein shocks in an effort to help smooth out the ride. Although it is still one bumpy FJ, the jolt has greatly reduced saving my kidneys. Now I need to work on how to mellow out the stiff springs. Running HFS 4" springs so any suggestions would be appreciated.
Remove a leaf?

I will have to look at mine and see which one. I’ve thought about this when I install my HFS lift
Thanks, clrussell, the pics below show my rear and front springs, maybe this will be helpful for you to remember what spring you removed. Did this make much of an improvement and do you know if you lost much height after removing? These pics are before I replaced the worn out HFS shocks with the Bilistein.

Patience and some good old Please , Thank You , Yes Mam and Yes Sir can really be a good thing to practice in general 24/7 in todays Inner-WEB faceless and voiceless world 🌎 we seem to now live and work in ?

- they hand picked all the “ Army Green “ ones for me as they call them in JAPAN …

- I already sent. A warm wishes email letting them know I received my order ok ✅

- I am starting to discover that letting anyone you do business with as both a client , customer that they did a good job proactively for no other reason then they did has a unique response or reply , it’s always the same they say

“ why thank you ToyotaMatt , that’s very kind of you , the only time I hear anything is when someone is complaining or something is F,d up , if I don’t hear anything at all then I know it’s ok “ …

- I don’t think anyone ever expresses gratitude proactively anymore ?

Maybe we live in a go go Amazon Fast everything dot.com world now or whatever. …?

But try it some time here if someone deserves a big shout out ,then they do ….

I make this point because I do not think I would have been so lucky 🍀 obtaining the unobtainable here below ?

Anyway ….

So …

I politely “ begged “ for OEM Green …. :D

My Pot is always OEM Green at the end of my J.I.S

Apologies to 40Tude for stealing the picture for reference, to dang hot to remember to take pictures today. Replaced these 47 year old hoses on my FJ40 with new fuel lines and clamps plus tightened the clamps on the main fuel inlet and vent line. Been getting a little bit of gas smell in the cab for a while, already replaced the gas cap and used compressed air to ensure the charcoal cannister wasn't plugged, it seems to be doing it's job ok. Tank does not appear to be leaking and holds pressure so I'm guessing the odor must be coming from a hose somewhere. The OEM hoses were hard and brittle with cracks on the ends, probably also had a few microscopic cracks elsewhere allowing gasses to escape. Didn't take long to swap it all out. Hard to be sure with no top on but I don't smell any fuel now. Fingers crossed that solved my smelly issue. 🤞

I set out to find out how to bring the whole broad brush topic of a modern , update to all things Thermostat Housing relayed mounting and assembly hardware ..

What I learned along that path was very very kool to say the least …

Salt spray ratings of plating types and colors ,

The over all strength class of JIS hardware that is MADE IN JAPAN , and how TOYOTA , s current 2 block face 14mm hex tool bolts and the 2 /4 12mm hex tool bolts that sandwich the upper and lower housings together are so dam outdated and also in todays modern age and current 2023 Japanese produced vehicle Specs. Simply under rated strength class wise too …!

I’ll be getting into the whole WHY here in a stand alone tech thread , but let’s just say below is both state of the art and also the best dam option on the availble on the Japanese Market today i could find anyway ….?

This is a solid example of where details matter most in every conceivable way …

You Rotella guys. Do not use it in your modern engines. Probably fine in your F and 2F engines.

1962-1990 Siamese F , F1.5 , 2F 3F / 3F-E ...

- this is the ONLY Fully Synthetic 20W50 on the market today that meets all API certifications and more and more importantly

- ALL owner's manual VISCOSITY Chart reequipments for SUMMER driving conditions in the LOWER 48

- it is 100% SAFE for catalytic converters too ! ZERO Zinc and ZERO Phosphates

- the Rocket Science is real here , and so is your paper print media oem FSM and Glove box owners manual too ...

- please feel free to faq check the above , I poured more then a few hours of live phone time a email time getting the tech. Here there. Is indeed tons of very confusing and misleading info out there especially on the whole API certification and the ZINC rich zddp info too , related to catalyst catalytic converters if u have to run one ..

Brands like Amsoil and Royal Purple self certify there Own API

And to be completely Frank here if anyone thinks the concrete facts that a real fully Synthetic motor oil is light years ahead of a conventional type …….

Well , look at all 2023 model year toyota Vehicle platforms and engines sold at your local toyota dealer ….,all require and spec. Fully Synthetic motor oil …,,,

THIS IS THE WAY ....

Knuckles, new brakes, vented rotors, transmission, and transfer case oil change complete.

Took it out and went through the drive-through. Conversation with the drive-through guy went like this.

Guy: Oh hey, nice Jeep!
Me: Thanks. (not really interested in explaining its an FJ)
Guy: Do you work on it?
Me: Yeah. Just finished changing some of the fluids.
Guy: Cool! Does it have a turbo in it?

 I got the same thing in the past with an old Jeep: "You should drop a Chevy V8 in there". There used to be this performance shop in town, and I went to see what I could to to improve some things in my 4.0 inline six. Reply: "Swap in a smallblock..." I started to research on my own and found Clifford Performance, and went from there.
Now I ge thte "Cool Jeep" followed by the 'Wait a minute..." look.

Anyway, that is a beautiful FJ!!!

Whew wee.....Great job, thank you

Took Mr. Myagi out with my 8 year old for a quick camping trip. Had a mechanical issue on the way there, which I'll detail in another thread. Fortunately, I let him sit on the side of the road for about 20 minutes and he fired up.

Anyhow, another beautiful evening in the mountains. Always a pleasure taking Myagi into the wilderness.

A little archery practice.

And learning her wilderness skills. Tonight's lessons were filtering water, choosing a tent spot and starting a fire.

My daughters are now in their 30's and continue our camping traditions with my grandsons. Great life lessons Dad!

I like the archery form. You obviously have taught her well. Like 40’s, archery can be enjoyed for a lifetime.
