Put in some air horns since that was easier than pulling the wheel. :grinpimp:

It's been a busy week, first I got a set BFG 33x10.5X15 MT's mounted on my 1980 and then I fixed my sagging rear springs on my red 1976. Spring comes early to "H" town and I can't think of a better way to enjoy the weather than a drive in a fj40.:)

To be mounted under the rig...had to chop out a bit of the cargo area.

Made some hinge pins out of 316 stainless that will be easier to remove than the originals which were not designed to be removed.

The final pins were polished up better. They fit the brass bushing and use JIS M8x1.25 stainless nuts.

Put the driver's door back on and no more hing rattle. (Still plenty of latch and cracked skin rattle) Due to my hinges being incredibly out of round, I used four bushings per door and drilled out the tub side of the hinges as well.

This way I can now unscrew either end of the pin, pop it out, and take the doors off.

I also modified a tire cross to allow me to mount it to the spare tire carrier.

Destin, the second pic is awesome. I totally got lost in the surf. And behind the wheel of your rig.... One of the best seats in the world.

Pulled the Warn 8074 and front bumper and overhauled and repainted both.

came home last week on five cylinders  pulled the head this week and found lots of cracked rings :crybaby: cylinders look good - ordered pistons and rings - rod bearings - exhuast valves and gaskets - hopefully back together next week . paid 2600 for this 76 fj40 one year ago - hopefully headed for better days!

beer at the beach

Destin-

was that over at the beach behind pelican brewery?

Have you noticed that I reference most places in the nation by their proximity to good beer?

Also, as you would not let me send you a sample of beer :beer: from the middle of the country, I am covertly working to get it to you through other mudders.

So, there!!!!

thanks man :)

It was WAY prettier out there than i could capture with my ****py camera and photo skills :D

Crazy day, was snowing over the coast range on the way back :)

1971 Fj40

After a couple of years sitting in my yard, (purchased as a parts rig) I pushed it into the garage to begin bringing her back to life. Its been over 2 years since Ive driven a 40. Sold my 78' to get an 80 series. Love the 80, but I cant stand not having a running 40 any longer. Theres nothing like em. Gotta get it on the road for summer wheeling. Next step, pull blown motor and swap in something that runs.

About a year ago I got temporarily relocated to New Mexico. I decided to take my FJ40 to my parent's house to store it in their barn rather than have it outside at my apartment while I was away. Well over the months I piddled around with this and that, but never really finished any little projects I had going. So it's gradually been going further and further from running condition. Well I decided a month or so ago to get it back in running condition so I can at least drive it to work once a week or so and have it ready for any adventures this summer may bring. Tonight I got the carburetor back on, after having it off to check my jet sizes, and all I have left is to put on new windshield wiper blades and find some screws for my passenger side mirror so I can put that back on, then finally check my timing and she'll be good to go!
