New truck box finally came in today. Not enough room behind my new seats so came up with this and still have lots of room for ice chest and gear on the deck. Fan shroud and fan clutch tomorrow. The Cruiser life is never boring thats for sure.

Personally, I'm not hankering for a second 40 - but I'd LOVE to have a 45 or a 55. Maybe some day if my business picks up again.

I like that fold down shelf is the plan to put a Coleman stove on it for camping? With the Jeeps the swing out rear door utilizes a nice fold down shelf similar to yours.

Getting closer and closer to the acid bath for the body. cut out the horrible hole a PO knocked in the side for a fuel tank. Once I get that patched and a new clean hole cut for the Downey tank body and panels are off to Eugene for a dip. Just need to get the rear bumper torn down and frame will be ready for sand blasting.

Acid bath for the body? I hadn't thought about that. How long will you have to get primer on it?

A rust inhibitor is applied to the parts but you want to make sure it does not get wet and stays in a dry environment. The owner said a body that stays dry can be rust free for months. It is by far the most expensive rust removal process, about 2k for all panels, but it is complete and gets into all the books. You also do not rush warping of panels like with sand blasting. The picture is of an FJ he did just a few weeks ago. This places is a couple hours from my house in Portland, but surely there are others on the east coast near you.

Agree, had a couple 40's at same time and didn't think much of it. I needed something different as it wasn't much fun to drive there other. Now that we were lucky to get the BJ45 it is a such a blast to drive. Since the 45 is all I can drive right now I am stoked to finish the 40 project.

I guess it would be like dating identical twins who are both expensive to maintain!!

I wish I could have a 40 that is bare metal colored without ever rusting. That would be cool.

Looks like a 70 tub with 73-78 buckets seats added? Added those bucket seats to my 68 years ago.

At this point my tub is the only thing needing stripped. The idea that the acid can get into the seam between the firewall and cowl is interesting.

My 20 year old $9.99 Harbor Freight angle grinder started shooting out sparks. I think I got my monies worth.

They don’t make them like they used to. My 1.5 year old $90 Makita grinder let out the mystery smoke the third time I used it. It lasted about 2.5’ of cutting through a cruiser tub.

Since then I’ve learned about ultra thin cutoff discs. They cut faster and don’t let the black smoke escape from the grinder.

Finally had time to drive them out of the garage and let them enjoy a little the sunlight
