Knocked on a door to ask about one parked behind a barn.

No answer.

This highlights the reason why none of my vehicles are visible from the road.

I have gone by this one for years.

Never knocked on the door but figure ever seen someone outside I would. But too be honest don't need another cruiser. But that never stopped me in the past.

Seen this one a few times. Never seen it when I lived there but was probably a minute walk from a old home I use to own. It's been parked behind a fence and covered in front. Only one time did I see it uncovered. Looks so much like the other one I drove to that one to verify it wasn't. Both are either 77 or 78.

Decided to attend Fall Crawl again. My speedometer cable broke last time I was out wheeling, and I cracked off a fender flare getting a little more sideways than intended last spring, so I decided the truck needed a lift kit and new armor. So with a couple weeks head start I gave all of my money to Cruiser Outfitters and 4Plus and dove in.

Replaced all my dash lights with LED’s (ok I have some money to Superbright LED’s too). Figured I might as well since I was in there swapping the speedometer cable.

Fixed the cable:

Fixed these headlight relays that inexplicably exploded like 3 days later.

Welded up some 3/16 fender flares that Dave over at 4 Plus cut for me. My welds are embarrassing, his flares are fantastic.

Fabricated my own tail light guards (design shamelessly stolen from 4Plus, executed far worse by me but I was out of money). Came out OK given my cutting tools include an angle grinder and a drill press.

Flipped the U-bolts with a 4Plus Ubolt flip kit. Installed OME Heavy/Heavy springs from Cruiser Outfitters. Rerouted the brake lines since the old ones didn’t work with the U-bolt flip.

Fixed a brake tab that I totally failed at successfully welding 5 years ago.

Welded shut, drilled and tapped new spring pin keeper bolt holes since all mine were stripped.

And at midnight with one sleep to spare before Fall Crawl, we are back on the ground. Hope I remembered to torque everything down.

Clustertruck is heading 165mi west for a weekend of wheeling, then (hopefully) getting me home again.

Wish me luck!

My house is somewhere in the small cluster of lights furthest to the right. Pretty much on the edge of modern civilization - once you cross the street across from my house there are only five paved roads to cross before you reach Aspen, CO, more than 250 miles as the crow flies.

There is a original owner 82 about 10 minutes from me, sitting on a trailer in the woods. I spotted the white roof off in the distance one day, spun a u-turn and spoke with the lady. It was her husbands whom had recently passed. She had no interest in selling and still doesn't (a year later). She let me take pictures. 46k original miles. Breaks my heart every time I pass by, seeing it rot.

Ran into something familiar back in 1995. I had decided I had to have a 45.pickup. had a few friends keeping a eye out for me. One told me he spotted one in South Phoenix. That was the only time I knocked on a door. Man who opened the door was rude when I asked if the Land Cruiser might be for sale and slammed the door. As I walked away a late teens girl came out and explained the truck belonged to her brother who had died. I thanked her and never knocked again. Did continue to drive by to see if it had a for sale sign. After a while it was moved behind a fence. Early 1996 bought my 45 in Northern California. Only thing I did tell the girl was they should empty the sand out of the bed. Sand inside the bed probably one of few things that would cause the bed to rust in Arizona. Worse than sitting on the ground. Never heard anything about that 45 again. It was south of Buckeye off west of 19th ave in case someone here managed to get it.

I took this photo 2 years ago when I stopped for the first time. Still sitting there on the trailer.

My friend finally bought this jewel a few months ago after 10+ years of being patient and persistent with the owner then his family after the owner died. Was parked under a carport rusting down the drive way as long as I can remember last inspection was '96. PO son said it had been sitting since 86 which sounds about right . Lesson: don't quit don't give up.

It's fall, and the hunt for Cruisers is on.

Think I'm at the other end of the hunt. People would be waiting for me to die and asking my wife if they were for sale if they knew where they were at. The reason I keep them in a garage to all the stockers away.

If I continued to buy would think I was a hoarder. Last one I bought was 2011. That one cost four times more than I had paid for any other FJ40. Only bought that after offering it for sale on mud and only possible buyer back out. If you average the years I've owned these four it was be twenty three years. They is an advantage of being into cruisers when cruisers weren't cool. Not going to hear why would you buy a Jap vehicle today.

just know that the KM3s run severely undersized
But that helps with how they “sit” on a stock steelie. The KO2 in the 10.5 buldges out a bit more on the sides in my experience.

Sure, but there are plenty of tall/narrow choices for the 16s that City Racer sells as opposed to the 33x1050s that OEM 15" wheels are relegated to...and the KM3s are short, more than they are narrow.

The KM3 seems to run slightly narrow compared to KO2 in same size. 16” rims do open up some nice tire options👍

Getting closer and closer to the acid bath for the body. cut out the horrible hole a PO knocked in the side for a fuel tank. Once I get that patched and a new clean hole cut for the Downey tank body and panels are off to Eugene for a dip. Just need to get the rear bumper torn down and frame will be ready for sand blasting.
