Yesterday, went fly fishing in the Pecos watershed.

Earlier that morning, I drained year-old gasoline from the tank, then I filled it up with about a gallon of fresh fuel. I think that my hands still smell like fuel. I had just finished with the last of the engine related details of the wiring harness. Then, with the much appreciated help of Steve @lurch, I got a second pair of hands to fire up this 2F for the first time in who knows how long. I was probably off a tooth or two on the distributor when I installed it last fall, so I was really nice to have someone dialing the spark timing in while I worked the choke, throttle, and ignition. I noticed that the instrument cluster showed oil pressure, Steve noticed gas in the window of the carb. It didn't exactly fire right up, maybe the borrowed battery lacked amperage, but it eventually did start. Together, we worked the dial of the advancing timing light, and distributor maintaining our view of the ball on the flywheel. The exhaust was relatively clear, no sign of coolant or oil being burned. Then, Steve tinkered with a resistant throttle linkage and dropped the idle, then I leaned-out the idle mix screw. We checked voltage on the battery, then the ammeter showed that, after all that cranking, the charge to the battery was basically complete. We turned it off, then over again a few times, and called it a night.

I’ve had the original seats in my shop for over a year. Finally had the new seat covers installed and got them installed in the 40. Pretty happy with the outcome.

Are those factory door safety straps?

Also did you paint or powder your wheels?

The door straps are reproductions. Can’t remember where I ordered them.

The wheels are powder coated. Pat aka @dogfishlake resurrected them for me.

Any idea on the powder colour used. Found a few old threads on it lately but seems more like a few powder colours have been used over the years
