I don’t do much spirited driving with the cruiser unless it’s off road. Lots of compromises I guess. I ride my motorcycle for spirited rides
Makes sense if that's how you use it. I suppose I like having my cake and eating it too, offroad and onroad. Sometimes more so than I ever rode my bike or my turbo miata 🤭

Went for a drive yesterday and heard some clunking up front. Turns out the bracket that holds the abs wire and brake hose to the spindle was missing a bolt on one side and a nut on the other (not sure which shop did this but I’ll find out). I was able to limp it to the hardware store to find some replacement hardware. I looked for about 20 mins but it seems no one makes m8x1.25 with a 12mm head, only 13mm. At that moment the sheer size of Toyota’s influence hits me, they can have hardware made to whatever size they want lol. Bought some zip ties and managed to limp my way home no issue.

Got to the dealer this morning and found the bolt in the parts diagram no problem but couldn’t find the nut. Finally the parts guy and I just googled “Toyota 12mm nut” and found the part number that way lol.

Actually it is not that Toyota gets bolts just for themselves but that the Japanese industry designed bolts with less excess weight. From a hardware store such as BelMetric you would be looking for JIS B-1180 or JIS B-1189 (with flange) these M8's use a 12mm wrench. DIN has done something similar but with external Torx heads to get the size down.

Since day 1 I've been spraying fluid film into the base of where these things thread into. I do this in the hope that it will prevent rust and that it might make it easier/possible to one day get them out. So far I don't see any rust.

How difficult for you were the OEM bump stops to get out? What kind of wrench did you use?
I sprayed some penetrating fluid a day before and used a 24 inch pipe wrench to get the stock piece off.

Installed DBA 4000 rear rotors, XP pads F/R, and the SLEE brake line kit this weekend. FINALLY got rid of the mushy brake pedal and got some bite! Also learned my 2nd row blowing warm air is just an Evap Temp sensor! Love it when it’s a cheap fix.

I love my DBA F/R rotors and pads along with Slee lines. More linear stopping versus peddle pressure.

After circling our local dealers who are charging way too much for the unicorn blood TC fluid and trying to order online but getting denied at every turn I decided to order the ravenol diffs/tc fluid bundle from Blauparts. Heads up today is the last day they are doing $10 off every $100 spent.

Just FYI. During SE Toyota sales, 7 bottles of diff fluid and 2 bottles of unicorn blood TC fluid can be had for $280 shipped. While not as cheap as the stuff from Ravenol, the difference per mile becomes negligible.

Yea I was fine even paying the $90 a bottle it normally goes for but most parts counters around here wanted $160 per bottle and I’m like no I’m no thank you. The other thing is most dealers I came across in so cal are only doing fluid purchases in person not on their online portals. It’s a pain.

What is “SE”?

I’ve managed to have one order of fluids shipped a year or 2 ago and not one dealership since will ship fluids. Some will let me order it online and pick up in person, which is fine if the discount makes it worth my time.

Interesting, I’m in GA and would love to know a dealer that would ship fluids to me. I’ve triad several here and Alabama.

Yeah I order a few parts for my Toyotas/Lexus' from SoCal dealers due to availability, but most orders are placed from a few SE dealers as they are typically much better priced during promo periods. I think I ended up paying ~$45 including shipping, per bottle of TC fluid. I would hard pass at $160 per bottle also, that's well into Macallan 12 territory.

In lieu of Unicorn Blood I used Red Line MT-LV 70W/75W GL-4 in transfer case oil and 75W85 GL-5 Gear Oil for the F & R differentials

I've made a bunch of fluid purchases through Toyota El Cajon - you just have to pick up in person.

Literally the same guys that Monday quoted me $89/liter then Tuesday quoted me $160/liter! And he only had one on hand!

So far my “same day shipped before 2pm central time” order from Blau parts did not ship until the next day and I gotta get this wrapped up by the end of the week. I found some at Lexus Kearny Mesa for $80ish. Gonna hit them up tomorrow.
