Oh man, i'd love to do a trip like that, how long have you guys been on the road? Any challenges crossing borders and finding gas and such? Any run in with some bad people while down there? That's one of my fear, is running into some bandits that'll put my family and I in danger.

19th month, Chicago to Deadhorse AK then south all the way. Currently in Buenos Aires.
Borders in Central America are a pain, South America is pretty easy. Gas in Patagonia can be challenging, have to plan your stops and be ready to spend a day at the gas station if they're out of gas. Just had a painful fill up south of Buenos Aires, over $5/gallon. Everyone has been very friendly, people see the US plate and come up to talk with me all the time.

That's awesome man, i wish to do this trip one day. Did you carry any jerry cans with you? You seem to pack rather light for such an expedition, i'm watching expedition overland on youtube and they're doing a similar drive. Pop your rear lift gate, let us see what you got inside lol.

I've got a couple of jerry cans for water, never filled the second one yet. Gas has been ok with a careful eye on range, amazingly with the tent on top and all the crap loaded inside I still get 17.6+ mpg on the highway. But it's usually pretty slow driving, 40-50mph.

Rear has a set of drawers I built, that I have been very happy with. I know where everything is and can get to it right away without digging through stuff. Top left is a Renogy suitcase solar panel, ARB 36qt fridge on the right.

Inside I removed the 60% middle seat and have room for tools, camping/hiking/climbing gear plus clothes and other stuff.

@Chris325i Do you guys have a blog or thread of your trip? I would love to see/read more about it.

Edit: found your thread

Will be puttting in a reman alternator this evening, already replaced the battery and fuel filter. I will be doing a complete rebuild of the stock alt. but 218k on it was pretty good. Another thing this alt. is a denso and says "remanufatured in USA" on it, guess I was under the impression that they were all done in some sweat shop in China, Taiwan, ect...

Took the Landy and family on up to Boston for the week to visit the folks. Great ride on the way up. Drank lots of premium grade , probably got about 16mpg. Pretty good I’d say at 70-75. It didn’t get above 10 degrees, and stayed below or just above zero for most of my time home. Truck had numerous cold starts, but never hesitated to turn over. Had to cut the trip short due to the weather. We left a little later than planned and hit the storm on our way back to Virginia. I would not have wished to of been driving any other vehicle. She didn’t miss a beat. My wife was a bit worried about driving through it, but we took it slow and steady. A combination of safe driving and solid handling eased her anxiety. She was very pleased with her performance, and has much more confidence in the trucks ability to tackle adverse driving conditions with ease. Also we were happy to see an outstanding 18.3mpg mid storm at an average speed of 37mph. Like I said it was slowwwww and steady hahah. A ten hour drive turned into a 15hr trip, but she got us home no problem. Just another reason to love our Hundy!

Awesome, I'm using the same tray. Works great except for the pwr steering reservoir bracket. It didn't clip in so I had to shave the plastic on the resrevoir to get it to seat properly.

I'm literally working on it right now . I had to do the same thing with the power steering reservoir and I'm not real confident it's not going to pop off at some point. I think I'm going to put a little safety wire around the bracket to be sure I never get surprised

Christ man how do you afford a 2 year vacation? lol, so jealous. Please document the trip if you got other pics, make a thread for that so we can all see, appreciate the response. Have fun on the rest of the trip, so what now? You've reached the ends of the earth, turn back around and go home? Or take a ferry to Antarctica?
