Added taillight guards. Strutted(drove) to car wash.

I drove it! I also washed it this afternoon.

My only concern is catching something from the side. But even then, they mount in such a way I think they would peel off pretty easily if caught on something.

It's a risk, no doubt, but I've also backed into a few things where they might have been a nice preventative measure...Since you pointed that out, I removed them and bent them inward just a bit. I suppose I could put some cushion on the inside of them and bend them snug enough to touch the vehicle..

recovering custom speaker grills and covering tweeter grill. Repairing saggy seat nets. Good times.

I guess a follow up post is coming soon huh. Looking good. What color did you paint or powder the Dissent bumper? After 14 color swatches from Prismatic, I think I've found a match to the charcoal paint the OE bumper came in.

It's Rustoleum Flat Black enamel. Wish I had done powder, always forget how much I hate sanding, priming, painting, sanding again, painting again.... Ugh.

Need to figure out how to get my winch in there before I go too much further. Control box on Superwinch Talon 12.5k needs to be relocated somewhere.

They do look good, but I thoroughly destroyed both quarter panels on my old 4Runner with similar guards. YMMV, hopefully your experience is different than mine.

Eventually found that damn extension and socket that I dropped while changing coil pack #3 a while back.

It somehow went through where the control arms connect and ended up in the lower control arm itself.

I painted my winch bumper on my FJ Cruiser - cleaned the hell out of it with a degreaser, wiped with acetone (I think), used metal-etching primer, several coats of DupliColor (dead-on match for body)... rust showed up within weeks. Bumper came off, went to the media blaster... then powder. But, that may be a product of Atlanta's 90% humidity.

May I ask what happened? Now that I have them installed I definitely plan on making some modifications to soften their potential contact with my panels.

Where did you get the tail light guards? I've been looking everywhere

Found some from another generous mud member. But i have seen them on Craigslist, particularly in the DFW area..

I like the appearance of them, but functionally speaking, there is definitely a better design out there. They are pretty crude, would be easy to 3d print in a different material. These would be more useful if they were rubber coated or made entirely from a thick rubber material like a bumper.

There is a local bicycle manufacturer I'm going to chat with and see what options are available. If these were available in another material, I think they'd be more useful and sell quite a bit more..

So if anyone can find a 3d printing resource where we can prototype these, I'd gladly remove them for the cause. My thinking is if we can go with less metal and a really thick rubber coating, it would be a better product...almost like a facemask on a football helmet.

If you hit something in the middle of the tail light, or localized anywhere on the taillight, it pushes the entire guard into the lens and body panel. I.E. they typically do more damage then if you didn't have them. Some goes for why we all (or at least me) run a steel bumper instead of a brush guard. If you hit a deer with a brush guard the impact will push the brush guard in and potentially do more damage then if you had the stock plastics out front.

They're called "damage multipliers" for a reason I suppose. . .

Installed airlift 1000 bags, slee 30mm spacers, cranked torsion bars. Had it aligned. Replaced my alternator.
