my 06 Toyota has a cabin filter. Pretty sure my 03 Toyota had one as well. Are you sure the earlier ones don't? maybe there just isn't one in there but you can stick one in?

There’s not even a door/slot to put one in on my 05 Toyota. I’ve had to remove that panel before to change out the door seal gasket before and no filters.

Yeah only LX, just like VGRS which is another great feature found only on LX.

Au contraire . . . my '99 LC has cabin filters and they work spectacularly!

New rear axle seals and orings (and parking brake shoes) for the LX. New item to add to you baseline - axle breathers. My rear was not breathing. None of the parts stores had the correct size seal driver, so I found the perfect substitute - a 2” PVC fitting. $5 and it couldn’t fit more perfect to drive that sucker in straight. I held a piece of 2x6 against it and drove it with a hammer.

Any chance you got part numbers for those rear axle seals? Great idea with the PVC pipe. I’m about to change my third members to e-lockers and will have to replace these seals as well.

No idea on difficulty level, but the internal airbox parts are the same. You can add one yourself: cabin air filter mod - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/cabin-air-filter-mod.1228707/post-13422540

I don't know if it was standard equipment or an option but both of my 1999 Land Cruisers have the cabin air filter slot. I'm the 2nd owner of both trucks and I don't believe either first owner ever did anything other than drive them (zero modifications). I don't think it's accurate that it was only an LX thing.

New fuel pump installed on the’99, at 438k.

This old pump/filter only gave me 26 years of service!

Started noticing slight throttle issues past few weeks. Took my time, 2 1/2 hours later she’s drinking through a new straw, noticeable improvement.

Interesting, I need to fact check but I’ve read somewhere on this forum that LC did not have cabin filter. My 07 LC doesn’t have it

From the TLC guidebook… hats off to RobRed… he has put together a comprehensive list of add-ons and modifications to make the old Cruisers more friendly!

I think it’s hit and miss on the earlier truck if they had the door installed for the filter, but I do think Toyota didn’t advertise it might be there. My 2000 had the door.

Had some jewelry from Motorsport-Tech show up today. Fresh 1" BORA spacers. These things are really nice. Can't wait to get them put on this weekend. Got new shoes ordered to be put on Monday. Going from 285/65/18 K02s to 275/70/18 Milestar Patagonia X/Ts. I'll share before and after pics in a few days.

I should clarify, a number of the 1998 to 2000s had the slot and the cover. Toyota just didn't advertise or put the filters in.

I was the second owner, checked the vehicle to see if it had the slot and cover, and put the filters in.

My "07 did not have the cabin air filter. I ordered the kit from my local dealer and installed it. When you remove the cover on the air box be prepared to see a ot of trash that is covering up the fins on the ac radiator. Mine had never been off since new and it was a nasty job cleaning up the fins. Used a tooth brush and a small pair of forceps and tweezers. The difference in the cool airflow was remarkable. Be sure to carefully replace the gasket in the groves to prevent leaking water in the floor. I used two filters when I reassembled as the slot was wide enough for two. I posted a thread with pictures on this forum about two years ago with part numbers and photos for the process.

Somebody fed me bad information and now I’m spreading that again. My apologies, and this is why we fact check everything we read on the internet folks. So I guess it was optional on the LC after all, but standard on LX.

Anyone have a window sticker for theirs with the cabin filter ?

Found some time today to get under the car and to start familiarizing myself with everything. I hear a clunk/pop at full turn sometimes. This is the passenger side CV axle (I’m assuming it’s that suspension is not a strongpoint for me) Guessing no bueno. The other side is dry. Time to do both? 179k miles. Assuming stock or old. Has Ironman 4x4 front/rear shocks and Ironman springs in the rear.

As @rbrave pointed out, you have a steering rack leak (the buggered boot is the inner tie rod). Honestly hard to know how long its been going on or how bad it is. Recommend flushing the hydraulic oil and adding AT-205. AT-205 reconditions the rubber seals and gives you a shot at slowing down or stopping the leak.

A clunk/pop at full turn is normally associated with a bad CV axle. What we can see of the inner boot looks pretty good, actually, but again, unknown the brand of axle or whats going on under the boots. Given your unfamiliarity, though, make sure your center diff lock is not engaged. That would also cause binding at full turn.

When I start with a new to me truck, I always change all of the fluids and add AT-205 to recondition the seals. I'm a fan of Valvoline synthetics, but I'll use Mobil 1 in a pinch. I then exercise the transfer case and center lock every time I drive it for a while, until they work very freely. Many times on these they don't get much use and bind up. Fresh oil and regular use frees them up in no time. Make sure you also check the axle breathers are breathing, and not clogged.
