Finally got tired of short term repairs on my tailgate / license plate trim panel. It has been rattling and driving me nuts. Decided to go a bit more permanent with some marine grade stainless shoulder eye bolts, rubber grommets (I will change these later, all I had laying around) and big flat washers with nyloc nuts on the inside. I figured a few extra points to clip things to would be handy. This will definitely hold up.

Used the Steelman 6600 Chassis Ear to find the source of a squeak and creak noise that would only happen off-road.

It turned out to be the rear bumper. The clamps function as microphones to transmit noise to the receiver. Each microphone has a different color that represents a different listening channel on the receiver. If you can recreate the noise, the chassis ear will help you quickly find the source.

Since I only need a chassis ear every few years, the basic entry "wired" model does the job. I bought this chassis ear over 3 years ago to find a suspension noise on another car. It is low-tech compared to the newer high-end wireless models. It works when I need it.

New genuine steering knuckle complete with spindle bearings and seals, new dust seal, new genuine (should’ve got koyo and saved a bit…) wheel bearings, new 555 lower control arm ball joint.

Background: while doing routine bearing maintenance saw signs that bearings on LF whee had spun at some point. Big thanks to @bryson for getting me thinking about replacing everything. Considered used but between shipping and the cost of seals/bearings it didn’t seem like enough price difference to justify a crapshoot. Even with shipping it was about $540 from Partsouq, and I got a bunch of other parts for about zero extra shipping cost and everything was here in three days.

Then I boogered up my LCA ball joint threads by forgetting to put the nut on and using a puller with a cup-shaped fitting….drrr. So got a new 555 from NAPA and a ball joint set from Advance Auto. Kind of wrestled with the BJ trying to ensure it went in straight but eventually prevailed. And then forgot to paint it (555s are famous for instant surface rust); will see if I can hit it with sandpaper and a spray can before heading out this morning….

Had to do an axle snap ring swap because of the knuckle swap. Thank goodness I had a bag of snap rings from Cruiserteq and @TheForger ’s tool to pull the axle out nice and far to check the gap.

Bearings in there were timken, and the inside of the hub had clearly been gouged by an amateur removing the races (or I did it, which seems unlikely as I’ve removed a lot of wheel bearings and never down that before), which is weird bc the PO had almost everything done at the dealer…

Inspirational. My poor 100 has had the spun bearing rings on both spindles since I picked it up 120k miles ago. I seem to need bearing service every 15k miles...maybe I should follow your path!

Alright!
Sliders are on from Adam @ 4x Innovations ($420 weld-on kit with steps and shipping).
Roof rack ordered from @bowfincruisers (@dogfishlake) getting ready for more adventures!
Really exciting to see the 100 transform!

The boyz took off the old side steps all by themselves, I did take pictures but for some reason the video and the pictures are white except for the one… really bummed! Then Gabe, @mesa man put the sliders together and welded them on!

I’m so ready for more adventures, the comfort of the 100 is nice and I will always enjoy the joy of being in the classic 40! Wonder how I’ll feel in the 60…🤔

Nice! The grip seems good, steps are placed perfect.

Experienced catastrophic steering-rack-seal failure. Noticed hard steering while pulling into the hospital, no power steering yesterday or today, and also an airbag light that isn’t going out (related?)…leaving a trail in case I got lost. You can see how many tries it took to pull out of my spot and turn 90 degrees.

Finally got some to installing two USB 3.0 ports in the place where the second row radio controls are located. I didn’t have the opportunity to order one of Ben’s swanky 3D printed panels so i used some acrylic i had laying around and rattle can the back side black so the smooth finish is facing outwards. Much better now that my girls don’t keep asking for a charge cable they have access to two

Where would I find one of those "swanky 3D printed ones"?

Lol for Ben's 3D printed parts post he's got a catalog of really cool panels etc here you go

This weekend I installed:

*Magnaflow Muffler, to replace my OEM unit. Fair amount of tack welding and cutting tube and I’m pretty happy with the result. A little throaty, but not annoying (at least below 45- we‘ll see what highway noise is like soon enough)
*Made my BT45-toy Bluetooth unit work. Took some fussing, but hey! I can stream podcasts and the music of my choosing.
*Replace my shifter console bulb. Now I can see what gear I am in, in two locations. I will not let the laws of entropy turn my truck into a ragged, unappreciated heap, by golly.

I spent about a half a day on a much needed "visibility" project. First I removed the four wiper arms from both 100s (all were faded and two even had a bit of surface rust), sanded them down and then repainted them. While they dried I razor-bladed and clay-barred all of the glass (amazing what a difference that made); the windshield on the 100 from Colorado needed extra help so I ended up polishing it with Griot's Glass Polisher and an orbital polisher. Again, HUGE improvement. Then I replaced the crap aftermarket wiper blades with some of the really nice OEM-like NWB that someone on this forum recommended. Finally, I hit all the glass with the Griot's Glass Seal (think Rainex on steroids). Night and day improvement for about $120 worth of parts/material and plenty of elbow grease.

Any sounds clips of exhaust and what series did you get?

Got it dirty at Merus in Palo Duro Canyon. Broke one of the rear sway bar brackets (can see it dangling in the second pic) and had to do some quick trail maintenance to take off the link. New part is on order.

Is that on public land? If so, do you mind sharing some directions/locations? I got drawn for the TPWD Aoudad hunt in Palo Duro Canyon for mid-December and want to do a little exploring while we're out there! Great shots, by the way, love the red dirt! :)

Never mind, I just realized you were at a 4x4 park. Looks great, will need to check into visiting.
