What did you do with your Tundra or Sequoia this weekend?

Those 5.29’s might be the ticket, but it is a lot of work to find out. I actually have either a front or rear 5.29 gear set sitting in the shop, I can’t remember for sure. I ordered a full set and one arrived damaged so I returned it and never reordered. I think my biggest complaint is the transmission is constantly shifting at the slightest variation in road grade. Trying to use cruise control is super aggravating as it will drop to a real low gear on hills and run the rpms super high when it’s not even necessary. That and the sway when a semi truck is passing me (improved from what it was). 7.5 mpg @ 65mph is brutal too, but probably won’t get much better if I stick with gas. A Ram 2500 with the 8-speed sounds nice, but most of trucks I am finding in my budget have the 6-speed.

I towed a larger camper on stock gears and 37s with no issues. Just use tow haul and leave it in sport mode in 4th gear. Air bags help a lot too. But now that Im regeared to 5.29s I leave it in tow haul, and it moves. What a difference it made. I too thought about a 3/4 truck, but nothing is out in my budget thats reliable. With the regear Im going to keep it til the wheels fall off. Or if Toyota puts another V8 in the Tundra!!!

When I towed with a half ton I would turn the cruise control off when approaching a grade and shift it manually.
If you’re still getting blown around that tells me your still on light truck tires 🤷‍♂️
E rated tires are the way to go.

It looks like you have over size tires, that throws the computer off and is part of the crazy shifting.

IMO E rated tires and a gear change would fix most of your issues.

Also IMO a gas 3/4 ton won’t be much of an upgrade over what you have if you get what you have set up right.

With My 6.7 power stroke I can pull just about any grade fully loaded with the cruise on the truck stays in overdrive but I choose to manually down shift to keep the RPM in the sweet spot.

My foot gets tired after a few hours! Lol

Tires are rated at 2500lb a corner, not E’s. I do have a Rough Country speedometer recalibrator that is dialed in for the correct speed, but maybe it needs further adjustment. Drivability was straight terrible when I switched to 315’s and I had to do something.

I feel I was modest when purchasing this camper. I see pics like these and just can’t imagine being at the wheel.

The first thing I see is stock size tires.

If I remember correctly you have a drawer system in the bed with a bunch of stuff plus your camper shell. All adding weight to the back of the truck.
The fifth wheel trailers look big but they pull way nicer with the hitch right over the axle.
My guess is total weight is the same as yours.

2500 lbs is good but still not a E rated tire.
Others have mentioned this as well along with other good suggestions it’s your choice.
Make a few adjustments or pony up the $$ for Diesel tow rig.
Mine was 70k in 2017 and I love it. But I towed with 1/2 & 3/4 gasers for decades before that.

Well you guys are right, 4S with Tow/Haul is as good as it gets. For once it wasn't hunting gears constantly and pulled hills here in MI without issue. Overall the return trip home was the best towing so far. Thanks for the advice!
