What did you do with your truck this week?

Jeremy, I balanced them. They took alot of weight, but I didn't have any vibration at all.
If you can find a shop with a bubble balancer, that might be the easiest way.

I watched Chuck search desperately on the phone for all the parts he forgot to buy to rebuild the t-case.

From what I have been told, these big bias ply tires don't wear evenly, so as soon as you wear them a little the balancing is worthless, not to mention any weights that fall off wheeling. I can't imagine they should ride any worse than my 38" SS did without balancing. I just need to get the air sorted out and double tighten everything.

Jeremy, have you tried balancing beads...I know lots of guys that have had problems balancing tires on big rigs and mudders and used them with great success....they dont work at slow speed but do really good at highway speeds I am told.

Welcome to www.dynabeads.net

Can't do now, as they are mounted up. I have heard of running airsoft pellets as well, but Woody runs a set of these same tires with air beads and a set of Growlers without, and he said there is no difference in the way they ride. So I passed on throwing anything in the rim.

Cruiser Outfitters would have a complete kit for Chuck that would have made that job a lot smoother.;)

Chuck just needs a bigger hammer!!!
That'll fix it.

Use Equal balancing powder, that is all we use at work on the rigs and what I have in my tires.

How do I find a dealer that can install it thru the valve stem?

Edit: Never mind, looks Carolina Wheel and Rim does it.

Edit again: They don't do it anymore. LT1Fire, how low do you air down your tires? Have you ever had the equal clog up your deflator?

They are pricey, I can get the same effect with anti-freeze for no cost.

I am thinking about trying the liquid method on the drive wheels if I can't get the shake out in a day or 2. It's the easiest, cheapest, and fastest thing for me to try in the driveway. They want $150 to balance them with stick-on weights down the street. That's pricey, and a hassle to take the rig to him. Plus as the tires wear or throw chunks it will be useless.

Please take the time to educate me if the question shows my ignorance:

Why do they need to be balanced if you tow to the trail and you're only running it off road?

Because I don't want to have to only tow it to the trail, and I would hope to drive it on the road once it is safe. I drove it from Myrtle to Wilmington in it's current state with 38" unbalanced bias ply Swampers without a problem. Not sure why I can't do it with these now. Either it's the beadlocks, or the tires, or both. But something has to got to be corrected.

Simple enough. Thanks!

That being said, is it necessary (or beneficial) to balance tires that will only be used on the trail or is that just more money spent?

Unless I had to drive from an outpost or something to the trailhead over 30 mph on BIG tires I wouldn't waste the time to balance them if they were trail only tires. Think of it like a tractor.;) They aren't balanced and are for offroad only, so any balancing would be a wasted effort.

Logan tried the golf balls w/ mediocre results. It does sound cool when you stop at a light though :D

I run dynabeads in the pig (guess I shoulda told the guy I sold em too) and Concrete has run the equal before. The beads worked well for me and Im not sure if the equal caused any problems deflating but the beads dont. Just dont pull the valve core with equal or it WILL evacuate.

Interesting you would try less air pressure but im imagining because the beefy nature of the tire.
When I aired down in the SOA 55 and tried pavement driving things got real scary real fast. Aired up and it was fine. ???

Rewired the ignition on the 45 to cure a intermittant no start issue. Keep your fingers crossed.

I watched Chuck search desperately on the phone for Marshal's phone number to see if he would help me rebuild the t-case.

new shoes for the 80

Just got some tires for the 80. I got the 315 KM2s for $175 mounted and balanced. They're pretty worn but I should be able to get maybe 10,000 out of them. It was worth it just to know that they would fit and not kill my power too much. They ride good and are not too loud. The engine pulls them pretty well too! Here are some pics!
