What did you do with your truck this week?

Damn Rick that sucks. What brand?

Nitro, from JustDifferentials. Will be tearing it down tomorrow AM to see what's what.

It doesnt' make the noise all the time, just when I'm coasting to a stop (before it feels the reverse load of full-on brakes). Did it 3 out of ~10 times that I was coming up on a red light during my commute.

Thinking ECGS will be the easiest/cheapest way to go. I ship my brokeass 3rd member and they ship me a reman within 48hrs for $665. The only thing not included in that price is shipping charges.

Other option is to buy new gears ($225), new master kit ($220) and new solid spacer ($25). But then I have to pay someone else to to set up the gears. Might be worth the extra $200 to have it ready to drop in.

The sucky part is I gotta do this before our big trip to Texas.

If you buy a solid spacer there is little else to setup as pinion depth is pre-set with the spacer.

Do you have an adjustable carrier or shims?

on my way into work this morning...I heard the tell-tale signs of a ring gear failure. FML!

You are a straight diff killer!

We just did a 4.88 in the rear of a Taco that had been set up wrong for about 30k miles. It was so loose I can't believe that it lasted that long.

That sucks....isn't this like your third one? Or was that something else that went bad? What do you think is causing the failures? Crazy stuff

It's an adjustable carrier. I have a solid spacer in there now and non-TEQ gears (Nitro). Won't really know what's going on until I pull it tomorrow. A reputable company set them up for me last time...which is what's got me scratchin my noggin' on why so soon.:bang:

Last set was installed around November 2010 and I've put about 40K miles on them.

Well, I guess that's been a rough 40K miles on them. A couple of GSMTR's and a handful of trips to the Cove.

Should still last...unless it was starved of oil or something was flawed.

I guess that far back you don't have warranty :(

Let me know if I can help at all.

Went out for lunch and it didn't do anything abnormal the whole trip. Thinking it could be loose pinion nut or something that might not be fatal, but certainly not right.

Hate to hear that Rick. I am debating going 4.88 in the 4runner. Guy on 4runner.org has a front 4.88 with aussie for $310 shipped. If I already had taxes done I would try to be all over it.

I swapped out a u-joint on the rear drive shaft that was a little sloppy. Going to see how that goes this week before cracking into the rear axle.

Also installed new Moog steering linkages on Bertha today. Cat doesn't think it has ever been changed. Installed tie rod, relay rod and all the ball joints.

Hey guys.... One trip a year that I take thought I'd share some photos of a good time ....

So what I did to my rig this last weekend was very little carnage which I was happy about.... One broken motor mount, and front drive shaft came out of yoke!l. Good times!

How can I upload a video?

I'm really liking that. Especially if you could do a screen behind them to keep the bugs out!

The designer(Kevin at Wagon Gear) of the pop out get's that question a lot. Currently he does not support or make a screen, but I suspect one could fab up some kind of pop in arrangement if one really wanted to leave it open and sleep inside. :)

Got the 88 4RNR up and running :) New timing chain, Timing chain cover, oil pump and water pump. Thing is running great. Heather wants to keep it but I think I am going to sell it to help fund a power transplant for the 60.
