It definitely brings in some cooler air and helps let it escape. Really no way to determine how affective it is. If I put my hand by it after a drive I can feel the heat coming out of it. It can’t hurt that’s for sure.

Monitoring intake air temp before and after would be one way

Finally installed my cheap snorkel I picked up in Vegas months ago. Still need to grab a silicone connector to connect it to the air box.
And don’t have the a pillar bracket but it’s pretty solid without.

Was that a three wheeler?

For 100 yards or so, Yes.
What’s going on here? Are you sleeving the axle?
Just diff removal. Housing wasn’t exactly straight anymore and bent with axle inside so only way I could pull axle to remove the diff.

Just say NO to jersey barriers!

How thick is the housing. I’m welding some gussets and a diff plate and wasn’t sure how thick the housing material was.
Can grab some measurements for you tomorrow.

Was surprised how thin it was at the cut location. I’d imagine diff cover is thicker as well as over at knuckles where balls are slid inside housing.

New tires! mmmm, new tires...

:):):)

Awesome thank you. Hoping it’s a little thicker at the diffs and knuckles like you said.

Anyone ever wonder exactly that "new tire smell" is? It's a toxic soup of volatile chemicals!

Things like hydrocarbon oils, Benzopyrene, Phenantrene, Chrysene, Benzylbutyl phthalate, Benzothiazole...

I could die peacefully in a new tire warehouse.

<edit> that should be "benzo-a-pyrene" </edit>

Drove it to a trailhead for an overnighter trip to scout for a shooter buck.

Also managed to bag a couple pine hens. I sure love this time of year.

On a tech related note I have been getting a noise on and off that sounded belt or pulley related all summer. Everytime I tried to find it with the stethoscope it would go away. The A/C didn't seem to affect it either. Well today it was bad and it sounded like it was coming from the A/C area.

I got home a few hours ago and I went ahead and pulled the A/C belt and idler pulley. I am pretty sure I found the problem.

Anyone got a part # handy for a new A/C idler pulley for a 97?

Also, what's the recommended service interval for belts?

Thanks

I dont have the part# handy, but highly recommend going the oem route as I have installed 2 aftermkt idler pulleys and both started squeeling after a couple of thousand miles.

OEM Belts are relatively inexpense, cheap insurance and might as well replace ‘em while you got them loose (unless they were just recently changed)

Absolutely going with OEM. The air con belt doesn't look very bad. All 3 belts were replaced spring of 2021 approximately 40,000 miles ago. I want to go ahead and replace them all but being on a budget sucks 🤣 🤣 🤣
