New rebuilt Denso starter 2.0kW. 4 yo Autozone unit quit once, that was enough. Forgot all the contortions necessary but got it done. Remember now why I bought those 12 and 17 gear wrenches. Happy.

Finished phase 1 of my new rear bumper. It is designed to take a JK receiver so that I can retain higher clearances when a hitch is not needed. Phase 2 will include end caps, shackle mounts, and swing outs.

Must be so awesome to be able to weld and have the space and knowhow to do this kind of stuff.
Awesome stuff!!!

I see a bolt attaches bumper to the frame and looks like the iron goes further back below the frame. When you have a chance would you mind taking a picture of the frame attachment from underneath.

Is that all 4" square 1/4 steel?

My buddy did the welding since I live in a condo will limited space. He works for a machine shop so we took advantage of it for laser cutting and milling. I designed all the parts, and helped with the fab work. The whole bumper goes together like a puzzle to remove any guess work. It's been awhile since I've welded, and he wanted a project to practice his TIG skills on. It was win-win for both of us.

Once again, that old addage is proven true- 'not what you know, but who you know'
Nice job on the design sir, looking great just as it is. looking forward to the rest of your art project.

Thanks. I will update when there is more to show. I assume it'll be a month or so before we can get the rest fabbed up.

This weekend I finally got my 80 running again after it was down for a week, distributor fried while my housemate borrowed it. Shoutout CruiserYard for the replacement!

Also replaced my fan clutch so it would stop overheating in the brutal AZ heat, replaced all 4 shocks and mounted some fresh 33's. Very happy with the outcome of a productive weekend, cheers yall

So after f**king up my drive flange I got a replacement ones, so I can drive her. Found out of course that the axle seal was totally shot, spilling my new diff oil all over my tyres. So yeah, finally re-sealed my front right axle! Sort of successful job .. but of course there's a BUT! Was unable to pull the tie rod ends out of the control arm, so I just couldn't check the knuckle preload and what's worse, I botchered up the tie rod screw with the hammer I'd tried to use to pull it out. Seems I'm looking for a replacement. So that's
- new driving flanges (both of em)
- new birf (almost shot)
- new short axle (the diff end splines are pretty worn too)
- new tie rod ends

gotta love it :)

After getting the Blue Hub fan in and a few test drives I am noticing good temp differences. Definitely confirming my suspicion that the old one was getting weaker. As a religious scanguage watcher I had noticed over the past year that my average temps had increased about 10-15 degrees.

40 minute drive after install noticed temps down about 10 degrees staying in the 183 range on interstate, where previously on this drive I was hovering around 191-196.

Shorter couple mile drive today to the store and back and temps never even broke 181, stayed 177. And as others have noted nice fan roar on startup.

Modified, or "stock" out of the box?

After 100K since the last change, I figured it was time to change my belts .

I had been getting an intermittent ticking/tapping coinciding with RPM. I changed all belts and idler pulleys (AC and alternator), and wouldn't you know it, the noise was gone :bounce:. It was a nick on one of the double alternator belts hitting the idler pulley. It was PM that was way overdue 👍. As an added benefit, the engine idles SO QUIET now. Toyota belts really do make a difference.

Then I went camping with my Scout Troop. We had a huge black bear ransack one of the neighboring site‘s tents, and then steal a duffel bag from one of our tents (while a Girl Scout was in the tent :nailbiting:). No harm done (we scared the bear off and got the duffel back) and I was happy I was sleeping in the 80 on this trip. My sleeping quarters are quite comfortable.

I added a CDL switch recently as well, but didn’t want to pay for one… snagged a used hazard on eBay and made my own sticker. Not sure why I reversed the colors, might make a white on black later instead.

HIR bulbs went in yesterday, roof patches on newly discovered holes seem to have fixed leaking, rear sprayer started working recently (clogged from infrequent use?), and I isolated no rear wiper/dome light to the hatch wiring in the boot at hinge. Couldn’t get wiper to work yesterday but it randomly started going today, and switch function is normal... now I know the ground & motor are good, just have to properly repair wire

Modified. Replacing a unit that was inserted about ten years ago but was used at the time it replaced the first fan clutch.

Knocked a few things off the list this weekend.
- "New" headlights from the yard (pulled apart the lenses to clean them out) then added led bulbs. HUGE improvement!!
- 150A alternator/wiring upgrade. Thanks for the quick shipment @Photoman! Easy install and my blower is faster, windows roll up quicker, etc
- Other odds and ends PM
- Washed the rigs by hand in order to hopefully bring some much-needed rain. (usually works, right??)

Photoman’s bracket is the only reliable and cost effective solution to the weak factory charging system. Had it for about a year and love it.
