2 weekends ago was a big one for me.

1. Swapped stock wheels for new ones and replaced the dry rotted 31” Toyo AT’s for 33” KO2s. I’m really digging this look.

2. Finally made use of the new dash that’s been sitting in my garage for a year. The one that came with the truck had a dash cap that looked worse than the original dash underneath. I had a moment of panic when I had to cut holes in the sides for the side defrost vents, but thankfully that went smoothly. If it’s in your budget to order one of these from Toyota, I recommend it. We all know they won’t be available forever.

3. LED light swap in the instruments. Everything except the high beam indicator. I was worried it would be too bright but the dimmer still works enough to get them to a great level of brightness. Very happy with the results.

4. Cleaned a lot of old dust. Really got inside all the vents.

If enough people request new dash caps I bet they’ll make them.

First wash for this 60. I’ve had it almost a year and there was mud stuck inside the bumper, in the grooves of the sliders, etc, that had been there for the 6-8 months. I also took some steel wool to the grill and found chrome underneath the filth.

Clear coated the dizzy I’ve been rebuilding so hopefully oil and grime wipe right off. I did the “rushing turdle” / @cps432 DIY recurve on it - new MDS springs, new stop pin bushing, cleaned and lubed the weights and breaker plate (47 ball bearings!). I’ll be installing that and the EGR block offs later today hopefully. It’ll unleash the power of the 2F … maybe.

Not for my 60, but hopefully for other people’s: making a batch of my HBIMs today. Gotta keep those high beam indicators lit up for folks.

I’ve been sitting some some parts for too long. Finally got additional OME leafs added to the spring packs, new shackles, extended sway bar end-links, and 4 Plus u-bolt flip kit installed last weekend. It’s sitting much better now, looking forward to getting the bumper and winch situated in the next few weeks. Forgive my b-league gas station photography!

Do you have a link to those wheels/hubcaps? They look so awesome...I've seen them around but never knew where people sourced them...

They appear to be OEM Toyota black steelies that fit FJ40’s-60’s era land cruisers. I have a set on my 60 and love them. Just Google search Toyota black steelies for the 40-60 era LC and you should find them.

More small projects this weekend:

Replaced all of the rear window washer hose. What a job that was. 5 hours! I could have spliced new line in where the old one failed, but I figured since I was in there I should do it all. I had some reinforced hose from Belmetric as well as some bulletproof “Snow Version” OE style blue washer hose from @ToyotaMatt. Some solid core wire was great for pulling hose through blind passages. I’m gonna do a full write up on this one soon.

Removed EGR system, installed @FJ40Jim block off plate and plug. This is another baby step towards remove a few select smog components. I hesitate to use the word “desmog” because that one gets thrown around a lot. Some of that stuff doesn’t hurt to leave, like the HAC system. My DIY recurve dizzy wasn’t thrilling me so I think I’ll just send it off to Mr. Chenoweth for the full professional treatment. I am THRILLED that my exhaust tick is gone, though - the truck is much quieter. I knew it was coming from the j-pipe flange on the manifold, but holy smokes there was almost nothing left of the gasket. Just some metal mesh from the middle of it . Because the material had disappeared the nuts got loose. One was spinning free and one was gone. I had some OEM backups.

I also took inspiration from @HemiAlex and started the Chemical Guys paint correction process on my hood. I’ll always have patina, but if I can get some blue back by removing oxidation that’s great. Huge difference with only the stage one cutting compound.

Refreshed my center console. No quite perfect but compared with the rest of the cruiser looks pretty darn good. Good enough even my helper, 6 year old son, was super pumped when he thought we got a new part in.

where did the snappy front double cups holder you added there come from :D ?

They can be purchased straight from Toyota. I don’t have the part number because @cruisermatt ordered them for my wife so she could surprise me (which she did). They’re 15” x 5.5” wide 40 series wheels.

Here’s a link to the same wheels on CruiserCorps:

cup holder folks: I’ve been thinking of an idea. If you could replace the stock cup holder on the OEM center console with something that actually works (and has a slit in the side for a mug handle) would you? It would attach with the same two screws - a completely bolt in 5 minute install. Thoughts?

I replaced my Old Man Emu shocks that were uncomfortable on the fj62. I replaced them with Dobinsons. Truly a huge upgrade. Left the OME leaf pack. Before the bumps were harsh jarring shaking the whole cruiser. Now I don’t even feel the bumps and it is comfortable. Highly recommend this upgrade. Fairly easy to do at home.

I used both. Can't image ever wanting to not have a cup holder down the road. Got it last Christmas, so its been in use for a year now.
