That would be great. I have to do some surgery on my 73 rear sill as well, and any info on what to expect behind the outer layer would be great.

Drilled and tapped a 60 series bell-housing to attach 55 mounts.
Mated the trans/transfer to the 2F.

Here's a pic of the rear end sliced open at different phases. With it all intact, it is basically a square tube with a L bend near the top. Inside the box, there is another piece of metal that has a deeper L bend (that's the piece that is to the right of the hole and has a 90 degree bend about halfway down the backside metal. Did that make sense?). Anyway, in between the first as second L bends, there is a metal rod that runs the length of the sill. You can just barely see it in this pic, just underneath the first bend where those 3 screws in a line are. This piece did something to connect the tailgate hinges or something. I'm not exactly sure. Anyway, for my truck, I'm gonna cut all of that out including the hinge and replace it with square tube that will connect to the body mount. Then, I'm gonna have a tailgate made of round tube or something.

No problem. I didn't realize the gas tank was so close when I was cutting. I hit it a little with my sawzall, before I switched to a cut off wheel.
Today, I welded in a patch panel, ground all my welds down, filled some pinholes and then ground those. I have four more patches to put in, then I can grind, scrape and clean the cab and bed, then por-15 the whole damn thing. Finally, herculiner will go on.

The "first piece" you talk about with the three screws is just the cover for the tailgate torsion bar and the "metal rod" is the tailgate torsion bar. It makes the tailgate a little "lighter" to open and close.
1 cab panel welded in. I'll do the other one tomorrow. Then, this weekend, I want to finish the bed panels, the rear hatch, and coat the inside of the cab and certain outside portions with POR-15. I hope I get it done.

Naturally, got my 4-runner tailgate rubber, the plastic pins for it, a tube of genuine Toyota FIPG (black) and the little plastic hood holder-upper holder-downer...S&H
was less than 10 bucks.
So the outer rubber on Pig tailgates uses plastic pins vs. metal clips?

Thanks, last thing I need is front marker lights from Toyota, which I will pick up tomorrow. The damn thing passed every year without those for three years. I guess the shop cleaned up its act.
