Polk audio marine 6.5 front and middle. Modified original grills in the front and used those instead.
Nice upgrade - are you planning on running in the river with the "marine" speakers - lol . How is the truck running?

Running good other than the tick, going to tear into it in a couple weeks to fix the leak. Fixing the oil pressure gauge, installing a new head unit and rebuilding the starter next weekend! These Polks have a shallower install depth than most speakers and they hold up to dust etc better in my experience. They come with a nice spacer too which makes things a lot easier during install.

Looking forward to your ROTM, will you be taking your new 80?

Thought of the day: If I don't see another Land Cruiser on a trail I will always see a PT Cruiser trying to go as far as possible. hhahahaaa.

Wife surprised me and asked me on a date to go wheeling up to Four Peaks. Most of our date was us helping a poor FJ out of a ravine.

Ranger shut down the top of Four Peaks at 1:30pm.

Majestic day.

I wonder what he was doing to end up there...

The FJ was approaching a left hairpin corner on an icy stretch when a suburban descending at speed began sliding into him--the FJ hit reverse and slid into the ravine. I got his rear out but his right front tire was dug in.

The suburban didn't stop to help and there were two razors and a jeep that witnessed the suburban on 37's with a 10" lift try passing other vehicles that morning at speed. They witnessed this too.

On my descent the infamous purple dinosaur appeared in my rear view. He snuggled up to my rear in no time and stayed there until I decided to let him pass at the bottom, he was a reckless and aggressive so I kept him at 10 mph for a while.

I'm going to begin looking for a winch, i belive I could've pulled FJ out if I had the winch.

I do find it interesting the FJ has a Hi-Lift attached to the roof rack. Pretty much useless on a modern vehicle with plastic wrapped all the way around the bottom. The FJ probably could of gotten out by himself given some time. Think outside the box. Do away with the mind set I can only go forward or backwards. While slower than a Hi-Lift even a bottle jack can be used to lift a vehicle then push it over in the direction you need to go. I've done this many times. Advantage with a Hi-Lift and a FJ40 you can move over much more each time but either way is better than be stuck. One thing AZ has going for it there are usually plenty of rocks around to help in self recovery. Just jacking each outside tire up and stacking rocks so the tires towards the trail are lower gravity will work for you when lift one end with a jack. Best recovery tool is the one between the ears. Just seems in today's modern world with lockers, winches and huge tires we forget it's there. As for the guys who drive purple dinosaurs I don't every see them going away and things like this are always going to happen. Just glad it wasn't worse.

Great points and observations. The guy was getting his hi-lift off the roof and I asked him what he planned to do with it? In his mind he was going to jack up the right side-- I told him we might use it later (to be polite). But, in all fairness to the FJ I don't have much experience getting unstuck so my novice mind went to immediately buying a winch. I do remember my father n I always positioning rocks to get us going again and sometimes it was one inch at a time.

I would avoid pulling in reverse. A few things tend to break easier when going in reverse under load.
