Just out of curiosity, it the marking in cylinder #1 light enough to call good? It looks like it, but I honestly don't know the limit to where you can call it good or not. Thanks for the pictures. Looks like a cool project

It’s fine.

Cheers

That's a good thing.

Compression test performed before tear down.

Even bore calipers leave marks in the bores but marks are not scoring.

damn buddy.... nice

FT in an HDJ81 that came in for,
Gturbo
+30 injectors
250hp pump
PDI intercooler
ARP head studs
Rebuild head
3” exhaust
Timing belt & water pump
EGT & boost gauges
Upgraded fan clutch
Few other things

Cheers
Curious what ya'll are using for the 3 inch exhaust? In house or an Aussie brand?

I checked the timing on pump, replaced some vac and fuel lines, and sent off my injectors to same shop in Portland. Very friendly people.

Was going to do compression test but my kit doesn't have a long enough adpater. Ordered fancy yanmar piece of kit that should work.

It’s a Torqit from Australia and yes 3”.

All stud holes in the top of the block tapped and cleaned out too.

Injection pump drive gear appears to have been cut off at one point on this FT. 🤦‍♂️

Deleting the water port in the head for the ACSD.

Top of pistons cleaned up.

Top of block done so taped off.

Rear timing case reinstalled, oil pump clearances checked and pump primed.

I think we will service the oil cooler while we are doing all this, it looks like it needs it.

Seems you guys are enjoying the content so as we work through this FT I will keep it going.

Found the leak on the p/s pump. The pump was also siliconed to the timing case, should only have an o-ring.

Oil cooler tear down and service. Pretty good overall but glad we did it. Cleaned and oiled the check valves, flushed oil cooler, cleaned housing and mating surfaces and deleted the ACSD port in it.

Did a quick clean on the block on this side before reinstalling the cooler.

Bottom of the head cleaned up. It’s getting rebuilt but I checked it for true and it is so shouldn’t need any taken off. Better to clean it now than after rebuild. Machine shop will only hot tank it, not scrub the HG surface.

It's interesting how deep the valves sit in the head. I wonder what the engineering is all about there? Those 24 valve engines are like art. Thanks for posting all the pics

Been driving it for 2 days now. Seems good so far. New engine runs well. Now it is seat time to find other need to fix items. The dash lights all flicker on going over big bumps- need to fix #1. More to come

First time I filled up the tank after driving a given mileage, without that stupidly tall canopy on it. Topped off the tank, foam and everything, to an even 10 gallons at ~354 miles kilometers.

Figure I got 22 MPG in "combined" driving. Combination of city, mountain (I live on a mountain) and rural driving.

I didn't keep good track of mileage when I drove it back from MT with the canopy, but IIRC I think it was about 15 MPG.
