I have a lot planned for the KZJ78 in the next few weekends. I ordered some egr block off plates that I am hopping will be in before this weekend. I have ordered factory 70 series rims (Toyota part number 42601-60262-03) I also ordered last month some 235 85 16 radar renegade R7 mt tires. I saw another prado somewhere with a similar lift and that same tire and thought it looked amazing. if anybody has tried these let me know what they think.

I also put the plastic bumper ends back on yesterday. they are a little scuffed but make the vehicle look more complete. (photo below parked at work) Today I just got a radio that will work on American fm stations. The one thats in the land cruiser only picks up the Japanese frequency's (correct me if I am wrong they seem to end at 89.9). I am also really close to purchasing a factory snorkel. I believe the part numbers are 53285-60090, 52831-60050, 53772-60030/53773-60010, and 53299-60190. Along with various other parts. If anyone knows where to find the corner lights in the factory orange color that would be awesome. I am trying to get it back to more stock looking especially since its my daily.

I'm new to the LC life but just getting started (and learning...) how to do electrics. Finally finished fitting my radio after the PO made a mess of things and I had to connect a constant supply wire to a constant supply on the ignition circuit because I was too lazy to wire to the battery or to find where the fault in the actual wire I should have used was. Building myself a frankenstein at this rate. Good news is I have a working radio that keeps the time! 😃 Next job is to source a new AC control panel since the plastic on the back of mine has snapped and all the control cables are currently sticking out the bottom 😂

One thing to keep in mind about new radios is the constant power wire that allows the unit to remember time is often its main source of power too.
If it is a high output system it will pull many amps through that connection.

Thank you! It seems to be happy enough so far and it wasn't happy with any other configurations so I'm going to hope for the best... I haven't blown any fuses yet and I am keeping in mind that its rigged funny. I've tried my best to make sure that if something happens, it will blow a fuse before it does any significant damage to the car. Fingers crossed I did it right!

If anyone is interested, i found this online. A great looking vintage style radio since most aftermarket look terrible.

I’m still trying to decide to get it or a marine style since i go softtop most of the year.

Bluetooth, phone, radio $140. Designed after vintage Toyota truck radios.

Not affiliated with them, but really considering

Period Correct 80’s Bluetooth Radio (Green Illumination) - https://www.80s-modern.com/product/period-correct-80-s-bluetooth-radio
This looks nice, and I love that they included bluetooth as well.

Yeah also includes PRE-outs for us amp people. Still trying to decide on that or a just no radio or something small and hidden to deter thieves.

I don't think thieves will try to steal that radio. It looks too plain (which is a good thing).

You wouldn't think so. I tend to keep absolutely nothing in my vehicle and don't lock it when I have the soft top on. Subwoofer comes out as thats way too easy to steal.

You reminded me of one of my fears when I had the 73 soft top. I was always afraid someone would take a knife to the OEM soft top cover but it was rarely ever parked anywhere besides work or garage.

Here is the JDM head unit in my HZJ77. It reminds me of a vintage marantz home stereo.

Here is a video of one in operation. (I don't use mine at all but it does work).

LOL - that stereo is awesome!! Never seen the like in a car stereo.... pretty neat. Does it only tune the Japanese radio stations, cause it would be neat/a novelty to leave it in there....

The JDM FM band currently tops out at 95 MHz. Prior to ~2013 it was 90 MHz. I'd keep that radio and get a cigarette lighter Bluetooth. Those go between 87 and 89 MHz.

It does pick up some random stations but as @cruiserdan said...it is limited range here. It won't play US CDs either sadly. I can't bring myself to remove it so the bluetooth lighter suggestion is great. Thanks Cdan.

Straight piped the R2.8 this week. Man, this little engine is LOUD. Not as loud as the 12ht was straight piped but much louder than I thought it would be. o_O

Initial tests show about 200º difference in EGTs and my intake temps have been lower. The R2.8 comes with a DOC at the turbo dump, so my thoughts are that heat and constriction was causing the intake airbox to warm up too. Maybe? Maybe not. But it's been worth it so far. A muffler is in my future though...
