No stop leak!!!

Clean and degrease the engine and start looking again.
Well, the good news is my 73 is not leaking oil. The less good news it's leaking diesel. Any suggestions where to start my search? It's dry (as in non leaky) from the tank to the filter and onward. I guess the pump is where I start looking unless there is another common part that likes to leak diesel I should look at?

I would guess the primer pump on the side of the injection pump. The primer pump can be replaced with a bosch unit for cheap and that tends to fix that issue. However it could be somewhere else on the pump as well.

@robmobile73 : Well done. Fingers crossed the starter and your other electrics didn't suffer.
6 in over the hood? That's deep. If your axle- and gearhouse breathers are not elevated that high, you should check the oils.
What about the interior? Any damage or just wet?
Anyway. Just amazing what our rigs can do.
My 73 is a "beater" compared to most of the other rigs I saw at the get together. I have rubber "fatigue mat" from lowes on the floor(waterproof) and normally wash it out with a water hose and put a space heater in it overnight to dry it out. No carpet, no jute pad. Water only about 6" deep inside the car(I didn't sit still in the water long).

I'm pretty sure the water got my starter solonoid. I have another seperate solonoid here at the house I may disconnect the factory unit and try it to see if it works before I drop money on a new starter. I'm worried about is my Tcase. I've had some "gear whine" under acceleration on the highway which I believe is the Tcase for some time. It is leaking fluid a bit worse recently had some strange occasional squeaking/spinning noise on hillclimbs in 4wd at windrock. Chances are it was low on oil and the leaking seals let in alot of dirty water. (a little water can dry/ boil out on the road, but if you have more water than oil..?) On the way home the gear whine noise got loud enough to be annoying/louder than all the other road noise. Holding my hand down by the Tcase shift boot it was significantly hotter than by the tranny gearshifter. I know my seals were going, and I'm guessing bearings going bad(now worse). Might be time to either go through it with new bearings and seals and put in the sumo gear 4:1 low ratio set..Or find another used Tcase and swap it out.

Another thing I learned at windrock was that my 17" steel high flow radiator fan while cooling excellantly does not have enough clearance to the shroud. When putting the LC at some serious twising/rocky terrain there is enough engine torque to torque the engine over 1/4" or so more than normal and the fan rattles and collides against the shroud. This is not an issue with the 15" plastic stock fan on fan clutch. I'll probably trim 1/2" off the blades on the 17" fan bringing it down to 16"

A really nice function of those front step bumpers is that when you get stuck in a mudhole you can climb out the window and across the head and stand on the front bumper while getting out your winch cable and throwing it to someone not in the mudhole, it's a nice capability to have/think about before you replace that front bumper with something "more stylish". There will be alot of heavy duty stuff on that rig and probably low miles to boot.

Thanks a bunch! I’ll start poking around this weekend but the pump surely looks wet from diesel. Any part specific number/model on that Bosch primer pump if that turns out to be the issue?

Replaced the clutch over the weekend. It looked pretty bad for only having 10,000km on it! The old one was rated at 300hp/300ft-lb, replaced by a Centerforce II rated at 387ft-lb. Hopefully it will hold up to whatever the 1.9L TDI can throw at it.

Pulled mine out of the garage (on it’s own power) after about 18 months under the knife. Still wrapping a few things up. Hzj79 body, 80 series frame, 2uzfe, a343f

Looks great! What wheels and tires? Look like 80 series steelies.

Awesome, thank you again. But now I feel lik an idiot because I can't for the life of me figure out where the primer is located on the injection pump. Neither from poking around in the engine or from the exploded diagram on amayama... :( I feel it should be obvious where it is...

I did find a nice little leak on the return hose from the last injector back to the pump though...

BJ73 or HZJ73 ? The BJ has the primer on the side of the IP while the HZJhas the primer on top of the fuel filter . If HZJ probably time to remove the pump and have it resealed .

My ACSD (automatic cold start device?) was leaking on the side of my pump, ended up pulling it and putting in a blocking plate.

LJ73. It’s me being and idiot again. I’ve got the primer on top of the fuel filter but somehow got it into my mind there was a second one on the IP. I can see a leak from the overflow hose if i build up pressure with the pump manually so I’ll start there. Hopefully that’s the only leak and might be form the fact I’m running HVO100 as fuel and that likes to eat old hoses from what I understand. Thank everyone for the support.

If it eats old hoses it will do the same with the o rings and gaskets in your injection pump , be ready to spend some money on that

Fingers crossed it won't come to that. Some say it does, other say it's no problem. It's an adventure :)
I'm lucky this time I guess, the hose is damaged from mechanical wear/vibrations where it meets the metal insert on the injector.
New hose, no more problems I hope.

Some pics and videos from the 70 series get together at Windrock in Tenneseee. These are links to videos from my google drive that are shared. We camped in the campground and slept in the back of the BJ73. Hopefully it works.

First video is some highlights from the group ride on Saturday:

Second video is a night ride on the cutoff trail:

I assume it’s getting a 2.8? That seems to be all the rage.

Hell no..Not this one.... I ordered a new turbo for it a week ago. I don't plan on going anywhere fast and its as clean as I've seen, no stains on seats or carpet.

I'll be removing this horrid front bumper and looking for a factory "non winch" and ordering an AC kit from @joekatana.

Previous owner ran all the bearings, timing belt, new odyssey battery, new clutch, resurfaced flywheel, new stereo system, have a tote full of OEM parts, and I ordered a 2" lift kit and 9.5rs comeup winch that came with deal.
