I’ll be working on getting the interior put back in the 80 on Sunday starting around 8. Shoot me a message if you want to swing by

Sounds like an 80 weekend! I started to pull the t-case apart. 3.1:1. Gears going in and going to free up sticking cdl actuator. In between work of course...

Btw, keeping track of time. Trying to beat the 7 hrs.....:)

That’s easy when you’ve done it twice already…

80 Weekend WOOT WOOT!!!

This week has been semi busy.
Trimmed some frame for new front coils. Cleaned up axle and frame for paint.
Made inner coil bump stop extensions after taking shock measurements under compression with tire on.
Trimmed flare for clearance with tire stuffed in wheel well.
Removed ABS system and tieing everything back together.

This weekend should be full of putting new front suspension on and then also pulling transfer case apart for gears. Hopefully will extend front axle breather. Old was plugged with dirt and created a vacuum in the axle housing, so make sure you clean them off after going through mud.

Then on to the rear end for some more fun.

Few pics.

Stuffing tire. Less epic in picture.

Cleaned up axle area. Mud and oil are not fun to clean off.

This is awesome!! Excited to see it at fall crawl

Weeeeeellllll

I was able to work on the t-case a little this afternoon. I did get the actuator apart and all lubed up. Appears to be working bettter.

So the Trail-Gear instructions have you put things back together in different order. I followed them and before I knew it I had both middle and back case halves on before hooking up the shift linkage ( which is harder to do) and had to add the detent ball and spring. Turns out there are two holes in that area and one is not for the shift rod. As I dropped the ball in and heard it bounce all around like a rock in a deep well, I knew I was screwed! Back off came the case pieces, had to reclean the cases and get off half hard rtv. Then had to find the ball...... I guess I have mad skills as it appears it fell down, went into this little oil channel and into the front output area. I looked all over the case pieces, never saw anything drop and hit the floor so figured it was in the case somewhere. I fished around with a magnet. Finally found it.

Clifton- @Toyodajunkie I know you are about to do this so be careful and I put the ball and spring in after setting the gears back in, before putting the case back together, just in case I did it again! It also makes it easier to get to the shift linkage to re-attach it. I also had about 1hr and 20 min to press all the gears off and back on and torque the gear bolts.

Charles- @FamilyCamper I think you should do the 10% underdrive gears while you are in there, you will end up with a 4:7X effective gear ratio with it. Not quite 4:88 but close enough and a lot cheaper. You have to pull all the gears off to do the low range gears.

I have the case back together but need to install a few switches, spedo cable and driveshaft. Then hope everything works!!!

Or just leave it there and install the plug! Thats what I did....I decided not to fight mine anymore.. good job.

That "5 minute" job took over an hour!
The nut started rounding off as soon as I put a wrench on it. I tried every rust penatrant I had and even hit it with mapp for a bit but was afraid of melting the nearby rubber. I ended up bashing a 13mm wrench into it and then it finally gave up.

@matzell definitely did not fully understand your post but need to call you about this before I do mine. And I know the under drive gears sound awesome but I need another 30% sale. Can't stomach the money for it when I'm totally happy with how it drives now

The underdrive gears + 3.11 low range gears gives you 3.3 out of the transfer case. My calculated rpm numbers

Completely forgot about the GOO!!! Just ordered some.

Thanks for the info. Didn’t get as far along this weekend as I wanted so maybe Saturday for pulling the t-case apart.

But did get front suspension parts on and ABS removed. Still deciding how far back to pull out the wiring. Axle looks so much cleaner without the ABS wiring.

This morning before work was able to pull rear suspension off and start LPV removal. Now on to figuring out rear shocks and springs. Will see where this week will take me as I have a kids b-day party this weekend.

Had some surface rust so cleaned it, sanded it down and threw some paint on it. Oh and added Slee SS brake lines at knuckles since I had them and was there.

And with new spring and shock. Netted ~1.5” of lift over what I had.

PS. Not a fan of shock boots so removed them from front shocks.

You forgot to install the front bump stop extensions so you do not shove the 37's into the fender! :)

Never about need! You may want to tow something someday? Plus 37's are the new 35's!
I have found Black Friday sales are almost always the biggest of the year. You may be able to find some when that comes around. Only about 2 months away.

I added ~3/4” for the current 35’s, hid them in the cup of the OEM coil bump stop. My 80 didn’t have front frame bumps tops when I got it. 🤷‍♂️

When 37’s happen I’ll see about adding more but between the bump stop cup and retainer.
