Making slow progress on the 96, but it is getting there.

Betsy is getting close to finishing the steering wheel. She is on her 3rd set of thread to try and stretch the leather around. The thread that comes with it kept breaking, so she got some better stuff but had to redo what she had already done. Not sure what it is going to cost me but should be worth it!🤷

Next step is to pause again and get a little more reorganized. Not pictured are stacks of fragile plastic stuff all over my house.

Note it only looks like I literally poured the POR-15 out on the floor, I swear...

So on deck while it's completely torn apart is of course some additional cleaning, finishing up the POR 15 to a clean line, the wheel well patching, sound deadening, audio stuff and I'm sure a few more things. I scraped / broke out the Toyota sound deadening in the cargo area because it had started to lift up a little and I could see surface rust creeping (sanded, cleaned, etched and por15'ed that). The rest of it seems like it's still doing its job and holding tight to the tub.

I think I am going to do the cut bike tire into the sunroof weatherstripping trick while I've got the headliner down and seal up the roof rack holes as well.

Any other suggestions along the lines of "oh damn, I shoulda done that when I had the carpet up" or "ugh what a PITA to take the trim pieces off to do this"??

nice work man. Give a call out when you are working in it. Others may be able to lend a hand and get some of it done faster.

Clean out the sunroof drains. The sunroof is a controlled water leak, it is suppose to let water in, it just has to find its way back out.

@RICVirginiaHJ61 I have extra sound deadening materials and the roller if you want them! Not going to do anymore on my rig.

Had this barely noticeable, slow coolant leak around the t-stat. Blamed the old gasket and bought a new one and new t-stat, but it was actually a tiny crack in the housing (or maybe both) that became a really big one taking it apart and putting it back together. The HJ housing is an entirely different shape than FJ (triangle bolt pattern v square). Fortunately, “the computer shows that there is like one of these in a U.S. warehouse - we’ll find it” — so said the guy one the phone. Toyota will send it on its way to me hopefully very soon.
