Brought the FZJ80 that was for sale out in Nellysford back to Richmond. This should keep me occupied for a good couple years or so.

I think I may be in the donor engine market @matzell. Maybe we can chat about your thoughts on that sometime.

Fixed my thermostat housing leak…third times the charm. New gasket and housing from Toyota solved it. None of the other 3 gaskets I bought were the same as the Toyota one plus some pitting on the old housing.

I got a little paint laid down tonight. Two more coats of clear and it will be good. I hope to finish resealing the engine this weekend then put the front clip on and make it look whole again.

Still piddling on the 96. PHH, fuel filter, valve cover gasket, dizzy o-ring, spark plugs, misc coolant hoses, and laid down a little paint.

And I have Betsy proving herself on redoing the steering wheel. Stay tuned.

Last ones for tonight. Been a long day. Valve cover cleaned and back on, dizzy o ring installed, the old one was hard and cracked coming off.

Little trick I do. If your throttle cable is smooth, but the sheathing is worn off, add some heat shrink to it.

Betsy is doing good on steering wheel!

I told her to keep track of her time. She likes the leather, but said the "unbreakable" thread is not that strong, I think she broke it a few times. She said she has stronger stuff, but that will be for the next one! It is a Lonkey kit I bought off Amazon, based on revues here on mud. She rattles off a bunch of different stitch patterns, I told her to pick one she likes and would look good.

Thats what I have sitting on my shelf, a Loncky. I did the steering wheel on my old 80 but my stitching was not as clean as Betsy's.
 
Throw down some structural carpet and call it a day

So I went looking for things I hoped I wouldn’t find over the past week. @davidp14 read your build thread too and it looks like we’ve got the same issues.

I'll note that some of this stuff jumped out at me when I was inspecting the thing before I bought it and I thought "welp there is a project", but these QP holes got a lot bigger as I picked at them and pulling up the carpet made the true extent of the inner fender issues a more clear.

Charles, I will try to stop by and listen to the engine and look at some of that rust, maybe come up with a plan for it.
