Update

Finally got the rig over to my garage for the stretch run.

Pulling firewall stuff off for sanding, primer and paint. Going with a urathane primer and paint.

Should be puting the firewall into paint by Friday.

Also putting on a new Master brake and clutch with lines...

My first 40 was a 76 and it had the cooling fan. Does anyone even have them in their rigs anymore? The last 2 I have had the PO's had removed them. Anyone out there still have 'em?

Primer Prep

Got a solid 6 hours on the 40 yesterday.

Dismantled most of the firewall, inside and out. Spent about 4 hours just sanding the outside of the firewall using a DA, , drill with wirewheel, and good ol' paper. Took the heaterbox apart for a restore, and found a nice nest fit for a family of mice. :)

Pics are of a big mess, firewall, and the NASON primer I used. Good stuff.

I will be applying some urathane primer ontop of the Epoxy and sanding that out.

Another Update, Engine Installed

Finally got the engine installed.. now I'm having issues with wiring. Can anyone identify the wires in the photos?

Dash is coming along as well... Do you like the black out treatment on the ash tray trim? or no?

And yes I am installing a F155 into a 76. Its been rebuilt and is SOLID...

It does have the 4 speed etc..

Anyways pics...

I think your right, Its up front but the colors threw me a bit. The first pic of wires (the BW ones) I have no idea where they go. Plus I have the wonderful task of mating a 76 wiring harness to a F155 Engine. Lots of "extra" wires I would imagine.

Keeping on...

I guess this is turning into my resto thread...

Got some work done this week. Installed dash switches, and wired em up, installed water temp wiring as I could NOT find the damn thing, Installed radiator, installed all wiring minus lights and a few tidbits.

Went to the yard, and found some nice OE hose clamps. Also found that a chevy cavelier has very good seats for installing into a 40. Will need to add some cross braces but the mounts are all flat which is huge for getting them into a 40.

Anyways, some pics of my progress to date.

Wiring goodies. Had to rewire the alternator as it sits on the drivers side on a 1F, but is wired for the Pass side on a 76.

New dash switches. Thx Degnol!!!!! I added some white crayon and they came out real nice.

Water Temp gauge wire. Going to add it into the loom. So it doesnt stick out too much.

Take a good look at the lifting hook on the front pass side of the motor. The 2F alternator bracket will bolt right up in place of this hook and leave the drivers side open for a power steering pump in place of the F alternator if PS is on your list of future mods.

Are you in the Salem area? Or am I getting you mixed up with someone else? I'm just off I-5 about 2 miles south of the Santiam River bridge.

Looking good!

Oops! Just looked back in the thread, you are in Salem. Only a hop, skip, and a jump away!

I thought about doing the 2F bracket. Can you get those from NAPA?

Also, will I need to get a new fan belt with the relocation of the alternator?

PS may or may not go into this rig, but def will in my 69.

No, you have to get them off an old 2F motor. I got mine from Mark at Marks Offroad. Very fair to deal with too.I don't remember what I paid though.

If I remember correctly I just got a belt for a 2F alt, anyway it is NAPA # 25-22495 .The belt for the F engine alt will be too short. The Toy alt should bolt right up with no problems. However, I went with a 100 amp CS130 instead in preperation for mounting a winch.

If you ever get down Albany way some evening, or on a Sunday, I can give you directions to my place or meet somewhere so you can see the set up.

Update... We are rollin!!!

The cruiser has moved under her own power for the first time in thirteen years!!! :bounce:

I went through and have sorted all electrical, minus rear taillights...
Found that the coil I was using was the wrong type. (for electronic ign) this caused all kinds of issues. Mostly loud arse backfires...

Rebuilt the carb.. (wow that was iffy)
Got everything bolted up and working, brakes, clutch, etc. Lots of testing as we went, tweeks, test again etc etc...

New issue... drivers side rear drum has an issue while backing up, so I'm breaking that open later today and see what I can see.

I only drove down and up the driveway, buts it's a start!!!

I will be mounting the front clip back on after it gets into inner paint, getting the brake issues solved, and getting the temp DMV sticker so I can take her out and about...

Pics will be coming soon...

Looks like the rear brakes need some work. Will be removing cyl's and cleaning them up along with kitting them.

And out of the blue, I cant depress the brake pedal anymore. It only goes down half way. ?? Anyone have any ideas why? Maybe the rod got into a funky position? Or the booster has an issue?

early models don't have a latch ;) and you still ding us for wrong orientation ?

Up until mid 63 LAND CRUISER was stamped into the bezel with no Toyota emblem, the emblem started with end of the LAND CRUISER stamp. If you check you will see Toyota is only centered top to bottom when the thick part is on top. You want your cruiser to look balanced don't you?

I don't think my 76 has the mount for the cooling fan. It's a early 76 made during 75. Plus the hard top doesn't have the mount for the the point seat belts, so maybe these things changed during the 76 model year. I love the color of this 76, probably the color I'll go with when I repaint mine. Keep up the good work.

John
