Congrats!

When was the last time the engine ran?

He had it fired up on Friday.

I don't mind dropping $150 on the kit... I just don't even know where it goes, or what it hooks too... I literally know NOTHING other than I need one. I am waaaaay out of my depth here, but I am ignorant, not stupid. I can learn, and I don't mind wrenching on something, getting dirty, or swearing at inanimate objects that resist my efforts or break off in my hands!

Well that's great news it runs. Do you have the hard top or just the Bestop? There was recently a set of half doors for sale in mud classifieds. The paint looks like hell but if they are truely cancer free that's a plus. It's common to see the barn door bottoms are rotted out. They are often called barn doors. For Sale - FJ40 Rust Free Barn Doors, NM Another option is a drop down tailgate.

I would hang on to your ambulance doors if you have room to store them.

If you decide to tackle your hydraulic cylinders a set of snap ring pliers will be handy. Sometimes the inner pistons are a bugger to get out but if you're patient it's no big deal. You can buy a flex hone to clean the bores. You'll need a couple different diameters. I use brake fluid when honing. To save money some people just use waterproof sandpaper. There's a guy who works on MG's who posted a helpful youtube video on cylinder rebuilding.

Thanks! I am planning on just buying the entire assembly and a new hose. New master, new slave, and new braided line for $150... I just need to make sure I am buying the right one.

That is a lot of rust for a novice to attempt to repair. You will get burned out trying to fix it-I myself would get burned out as well. I would get in touch with teseven in France and just get a complete new tub. Or get one from aqualu. I myself have a decent 3/4 tub for sale in classifieds if your interested. I'm curious what other fellas advice to be given will be, especially those who are doing extensive rust repairs. Honestly you paid a bit much I think, but not that bad. It can be saved.

Yes id be all over white stripe's tub if i were you man!

If i was in the US id prob buy it. Oh wait our s***ty dollar makes it out of reach haha

I will go look for your tub, but to save me some time, what is the price? :) I am not making this into a show vehicle, so I don't mind some bondo/filler, as long as its painted over well and SAFE!

Keep the doors. You may want to go to a hard top one day. Clean doors are getting harder and harder to find.

what @Mace said. When you get transferred to Ft. Riley, you will want the doors.

Yes absolutely keep your ambi doors;)

Here it is:
For Sale - 77 fj40 3/4 tub
Where the roll bar supports are, it needs the metal cut out and replaced. Years ago I cut out the rust and welded in patch panels on the quarters and rockers. Then nice bondo to smooth things out. After years of wheelin and the chassis flexing the bondo has cracked in a few areas. Those spots will need to be ground down to metal because I think some rust is starting to form in those cracks. Then fill in with bondo and good to go. About two years ago I took out the seats and fuel tank, put rust converter on all the floor rust, then painted over it with some decent paint. In my build thread their are lots of pics of my cruiser. But the thread doesn't go back to where I did body work.
