They wrote if off??? Might work out better for you I suppose. Bummer

Yep, I did come out on top..

Well then. There we go. I thought a Tacoma VW diesel swap might have been on the table. Or did you sell the tac.... can't keep up. lol.
Dude, you are so close to my what has been going through my brain for the last couple weeks... Except I want my original 1982 toy pickup with this engine...I would probably kick myself for not going the extra cab way tho..

Ya that went through my mind, been lurking on the VW sites, lots of cool info... My dream truck would be my first gen pickup with that engine..:) Would like to keep the electronics and do a Malone upgrade and maybe injectors bump up the HP..Maybe 35s...

Lots of guys say dump the electronics and put on a mechanical pump..?

Bugger.

Those headlight lenses are so clear, kinda like someone fixed them up real nice! lol.
If I were you I'd fix it up too. It really is a nice little car.

When my daughter learns to drive it will be in a TDI Golf/Jetta of that vintage. They are getting cheaper and cheaper, aren't really that hard to fix, and they are so safe. Of course in order to be safe for the occupants the occupants must be occupying the car. ;)

sucks about the vw.

I might have to do something about mine this summer....engine is great, it's the rest of the car that's getting bagged out, and it always was an ugly sob.

I don't mind vw, but the constant electrical gremlins are a bit tiresome.

Maybe swap it into something cooler. Dunno quite what tho....Not much into suzuki's although I know it's been done a million times with samurai and such.
apparently Mel's 02 crv is impossible, honda engines spin in the wrong direction....too bad. that'd be a good combo.

or just get something better and flog it. meh.

Speaking of VW's, I just returned a rental Jetta, gasser of course. What a POS. Noisy, rough running. I'd have to get
5o mpg to like that car, and even then I'd probably just tolerate it. My opinion of course, but the person I work with had
the same view. The seats were really hard.
Anyways, enough of that rant. Rob, was the Merc jacked up, cause I'm trying to figure out how the headlight and hood got
mangled, but the bumper seems ok? Weird.

Yep, it was a SUV.

I like the zuki, Dane Frazer who worked at Harbour city diesel has one, guy at NWFab has one... I think the only problem with his is the 1.6 is a bit small and one guy keeps popping the engine....

Seems ridiculous that it was written off for that... But it doesn't surprise me, my son's Girlfriend's Mazda was written off over a bumper, grill, and a hood. The rad and rad support will need to also be replaced, but it's crazy what they write off.

Got a call from ICBICI, they changed their mind and are now fixing it:bang:, just as well I really like the car...

She is going in for repairs this week... Put in a new battery and pulled the alternator...working on these little cars makes me appreciate the design of the cruiser....Thankfully they usually run for 350000KM before this type of service..

Had to pull tensioner pully mount, AC compressor then pry that pesky little alternator out.. FUN:bang:

Yeah, they are a bitch to work on. I was kindof amazed to notice my vw has a 120 amp alternator in it....kinda puts the cruiser ones to shame there.

Nother fun update on the diesel front, my girl now owns a golf diesel...and she filled it with GAS yesterday:hillbilly:

Car has 285K we scored it for 2800...in Victoria..

Made a new friend at Harbour view volks, head mechanic, he is lending me all the tools to do her timing belt, super nice guy..

Long time since I siphoned gas, had to pull the fuel pump and go through the top of the tank..

Crappy! Did she drive it with the gas in it?

No drain in the bottom of the tank? Messy way to get the fuel out, but very easy.

No drain bolt on plastic tank.... she drove it until it died on the road...

Your not kidding, she is going to have to wash the carpet, I could not get the pickup out without dropping some gas.. Several mouth fulls of gas and it was drained.. replaced fuel filter primed system and she fired right up..

Good thing its an ALH. Newer ones aren't as forgiving with the 100% gasoline additive. Oh well at least gas isn't expensive or anything....:grinpimp:
