Just did a timing belt on my little golf 1.9, out of my comfort zone but most of the quotes were like a grand or more.

Got the kit from John at Radd, awsome all metal water pump and top quality parts. On this particular model you need little to no special tools.

300K on the od, what should I look at replacing before it goes?

Cams little tip on more fuel in the tank was a winner winner chicken dinner...

bah, just drive the s*** out of it till it explodes. Cuts into the savings margin to replace parts...:hillbilly:

Ya I could do that....

Bit of a maintenance junky, replacing fluids belts yada yada:beer:

Somebody said front wheel bearings, cause when they fail its bad...?

Struts are bagged, might buy a new set...

Kinda quiet at the metal supermarket today, I have a 4 foot brake some welders, plasma.. Maybe I should put a wing on the back of the Golf to add down force:meh::hillbilly:

Clean the air intake and drain the oil from the intercooler.

Google ALH (thats your eng. code) intake clogging. Give the old girl her lungs back. If its been a highway car then you might be OK..... The EGR on the ALH has a tendency to clog things up if the car's motor is never "pushed".

Yes I am a EURO nerd. :D

So...do you call your volkswagen the dirty little secret? :flipoff2:

Couple good websites... www.myturbodiesel.com has s***loads of faq's and how to's.

Lots of pictures to lead the granola munching hordes. Kinda reminds me of these old John Muir books, that I spent many many hours with back in highschool with my bug...roaches always seemed to fall out of my copy whenever I picked it up...

and then www.tdiclub.com has a big forum with billions of techno nerds who'll give you s*** if you use the wrong terminology. (Kinda like the diesel section here...)

And rob...wing...no...

bad enough we both drive vw's...no need to go full Liberace with it..

When I did the tbelt, all of this was done also, been lurking on some vdub forums...

Nice:steer:

I am really starting to like this little car, never would of guessed.

Nother really good tip from Cam, I looked for anything rubbing on the intercooler, turns out the lower front fender was rubbing on the plastic and almost wore through, cut the fender back a tad....

This might fix my bagged suspension..

Yeah. I have to admit, my dislike of my vw is softening.... the math is just too nice, from $60 per week on fuel, to $60 per month...

Every tank of fuel I'm not putting into the cruiser, is another sheet of Okoume...:grinpimp:

I'll be up at MS one day pretty soon. My front skid plate is missing, which I kinda need to deal with.

so I think I'll build an aluminum one rather than find a beatup plastic one. ( and I'm too cheap to just buy a nice aluminum one...)

Rob, since when have you been driving a VW ? 3 60's series and a VW? . . . really ? Rob at RADD Cruiser's . . . really ?

Nope, not Rob M from Radd Cruisers, Rob L..:flipoff2:

Come awn down, earlier the better, we have a 4 foot brake if you need to make some bends, 12 foot shear...

First 2 hours are pretty quiet.

Yeah, I was thinking I'd just do a couple of bits of 1/4" alum flat bar fore and aft to act as supports for the main skid( plus much easier to hold up and get to fit) then cut some larger panels for the rest ( mostly just splash guards anyways.)

I can fit up to 18" in the little brake I made for my press. :grinpimp:

Hey boys, just ordered up my glass headlight covers, ditching the hazy plastic s***ters...

Its got a droning noise in the front end anything over 50KM hr, front wheel bearings?

4runner sold
Supercharged hundy as good as sold next week...

What to buy next?:hhmm:

I have an rpm sensitive drone in mine, apparently the stock exhausts on the 1.9's can resonate now and again.

Mine does it at 2050 rpm, which coincidentally, is about 94 km/h, so it makes a pretty good speed warning.

Apparently it's usually the cat, and one day I'll hack it out, but...it's not like it's life threatening so...not soon

Ahhhhh, good tip, I felt the wheel bearings which appeared good.

Not sure if I can delete the cast with computer and sensors?

I gather that you can wire in a couple resistors to fool the comp into thinking the sensors are still there, OR, if you're ghetto like me, just tape them up out of the way somewhere and leave em plugged in...:hillbilly:

Much like the 5th injector. ( which is deeply stupid and needs to be gotten rid of if you still have it...)
I'll probably grab a flex coupler and put it in the cats place when I do it.

Well the dronning problem stays the same when I push the clutch in and drop rpm to idle, so problem is something else?

Gonna do the wheel bearings.
