Ignore the lack of tires

I'm doing the brakes so ignore the jack stands and lack of tires :flipoff2: .... here is my new Jetta!

I'm still working on getting my garage door onto the barn to keep the wind/cold mostly out.

Nice.

Those rear calipers are known to suck. If they give any grief when fitting the new pads replace them!

it amuses me that neither of your vehicles have wheels on them....

Good little cars tho. it's handy having a trunk that large, two phillippino hookers and a machete fit without all that much folding.

I have either a grumbly bearing or a loud tire in mine. Looks like the monsoon is pausing for a moment, so I may go investigate today.

I was halfway hoping it was an exhaust leak, so I can get rid of that 400 pounds of convoluted shyte under there and run a straight pipe.

Some of my vehicles have wheels on them... the dakota has wheels but no transfer case... (exploded on the hwy) ... also the airbag is deployed for inspection...

The snow plow still has wheels, the 70 has wheels but is missing other things like doors, seats and an engine, the carolla has wheels, the other carolla has wheels... and the minivan isn't mine

All the VWers are comming out of the closet I may as well too. I'm on my 7th MK2 VW. Currently running 86 Jetta diesel. Bought it with a tired motor so I cobbled a powerplant with parts I had sitting around and threw in a set of rings and bearings. Wastegate must be stuck because it has boosted 13lbs since I built the motor, also cut out the muffler, bumped the timing ahead, KN filter, Eagle Talon front mount intercooler. EGTS might hit 1300f if I hold it to the floor up the Coq snowshed hill doing 125 but meh I shouldn't be driving like that anyways. Tough motors but the cars themselves are slightly suspect. I like my BJ60 but hey it's nice when the chastity-mobile burns 4.5L/ 100 and you don't exactly give a rat's when getting pelted with stones from passing vehicles or seeing clumps of salty slush piled in your wheelwells:meh:

Yeah, they aren't quite as heavy duty as what we're used to eh?

It is kinda nice tho, I have some rust on my fenders, I'd be compelled to fix that if it was on a cruiser, but on this thing...naaaaah.

I have two boats...neither of which float ( or at least not right side up) so I'm one to talk...

I'm on my 1st MK2. Should have done it years ago. Still getting used to be inside a small tin can...not sure I like that. But when you can drive from New West to Sea Tac then back to Sumas, and there already was around 350kms on the tank...then put $50.00 of fuel in; That's hard to argue. I do want to end up with a 1999.5-2003 Jetta ALH and 5spd, and then MK2 goes to my step son.

Yep, gotta love those little cars.

The MK4 cars seem like they have so much more material around them than the older generations. Having driving Mk1's thru MK5's, they have made huge advancements. Had a MK3 Jetta and my MK4 Jetta seems so much more refined.

Agreed.

All one has to do is pull the carpet up or remove a door panel to see how much sound deadening material is in these cars. That good ol' european door thud is so lovely a sound.

My buddy is ripping into his mother's tdi.
Cleaning the intake out.

Apparently guys are still running into issues with running synthetic oil.

Either way I would probably install a catch can and do an egr delete. That should fix that problem.

The ALH's are more prone to the plugging up, at least more so than the BEW's. Early shifting, poor maintenance and city driving exacerbate the problem. These cars have to work hard from time to time to keep the arteries flowing nicely.

Thats what I was thinking.
It's needed to run them hot and hard at times.

Well the dronning problem stays the same when I push the clutch in and drop rpm to idle, so problem is something else?

Gonna do the wheel bearings.

The noise I think was from the factory roof racks which were missing the end caps when I purchased it..

Someone did the suspension upgrade kit which replaced many of the worn parts, I will be doing this before the winter.

All this talk about great gas mileage on these TDI'S has got me thinking about getting one. I punch in TDI in used vic and lots of vehicles come up from 3 grand to 30 grand- golfs, jetta's passats autos and 5 speeds. If it was just for me i would get the cheapest one that gets the best mileage with the least problems and a 5 speed. If for the :princess: i would need auto and a few niceties like a/c 'power windows and locks etc. So my question is whats good ,whats bad, what to watch out for??

This particular year I was told has the heavey duty clutch, pretty much from 1999 until 2003? I think are the best years for fuel economy..

Again second hand info....

Ask Cam, he is VW geek on this board..:D
