Any ideas on where to find a VSV box for a 78 FJ40?

Toyota no longer has the part. Mark's Off Road has a few for 76 and no 78s.

Thanks

I've got one in my truck and another one that's more broken than yours. Any chance it could be welded or soldered? Even JB Weld would probably work pretty well.

SOR's got them for $75. Not a bad price, actually. Bottom of the page: Specter Off-Road-Land Cruiser Parts - Search On-048-07

I've purchased quite a few used parts from SOR. No complaints. Only other thing to watch out for when buying from SOR is the shipping and handling charge $$$$. Helps to keep the price down if you purchase several items at once .

I'm going to to order from Spector but they are giving me 2 choices, California or not. It occurs to me (less than a week I've had the vehicle) that I'm not sure it originated in California. From limited paperwork I can tell it was in California - late 90s, but not much else. My sticker under the non-catalyst statement does not have the reference to CA I think I've seen on other stickers. Any easy way to tell for sure?

IFRC, the exhaust manifold is different between the two.

another little silver box that has 2 male connectors but no wires going to it (on mine anyway).

That is not a Toyota part, AFAIK.

My carb has the HIC and is definitely from CA. I think it mentions CA on the emissions sticker too. WTF is the little box for?

SOR has their pics confused. They have the CA spec. carb pictured as the Fed carb.

Agreed. I'm drawing a blank as to what the 2nd wire is for. I know I've got both connected. Idle solenoid, and...

The CA carb for '78 has the HIC ( rectangular box thingy) on the top front .

The Fed Spec '78 has the HIC also.

As a follow-up, here is the printout from the Toyota Emission Manual for '78 Fed-Spec.

So what's up with my carb?

Thanks much for the diagrams - I'm still trying to locate 78 manuals.

So was there a carb in 78 without the HIC (doesn't Spector show the 2 - earlier post)?

And - could this mean my carb is not original to the vehicle?
