Damn what size are those ?

42s

Mike had at his shop so rolled out to take a gander at and they're biggens.

Been running all morning with her and can't get over how easily she turns the 37s.

Was at a jobsite earlier and for S&Gs hit low.

FAN-FRIGGIN'-TASTIC!!!!

3rd gear starts feel like what the low gearset in the 80 did and first could be metered in feet per hour.

Phenomenal!!

Would you say 4.56 is optimal for 37's (w/ 1HZ) or would you go 4.88?

Think I'd like a little more butt dyno time to definitively say (as I've no tach) but, at this time, think 4.88s are too deep for 37s.

Still don't have much of a first gear with the 4.56s and 5th just keeps pulling, never feeling a lag even on highway climbs that send my stock 80 down a gear.

Joe's coming up in a couple of weeks and has a lot of experience with all the diesels, in any configuration (except 37" Krawlers, prolly ;) ) so he should be able to offer a better overview of this ratios performance.

Guess I've elocked, uber built 5.29 diffs for sale......sure don't need them.

You have a 4:1 low gear right? If so, then here's what you need to look at:

4.95 x 4 x 4.56 = 90.29:1

4.95 x 4 x 5.29 = 104.74:1

Does the diesel make up for that difference?

Man, I dunno...I've always been of a mind that diff gears correct for tire ratio, but thinking 5.29'd and the shifter should read:

RMFL
RFL
FL
L
1st

20' into L, I was in 4th gear and the HZ was humming.

Think 5.29s would turn 2H into a 3 speed with two unusable gears, because 1st is very short and starting in 2nd almost comes second nature.

Joe can validate the efficiency more than I, having no experience with an HZ before now, but feels pretty deep, the only flat spot in 5th that I think is only noticeable because it's natural to shift into 5th early.

I'm impressed with the gearset and want to pull the HZ and take to bed with me at night....

I LOVE HER!!

This job didn't suck, at all....and cost me an iPhone screen:

Wish she'd been left white....still smells like sheep piss.

Couple of hours with a wire wheel, wire brush, mineral spirits and four cans of flat black, and her belly's even looking good.

(Yeah, I see the spots I missed....tomorrow in daylight will cure)

Carpet needs to be burned. Felt dirty touching and STILL can't get the funk off the steering wheel.

The interior of my Spanish 73 was like a dead body spent some time in there. The steering wheel could not be cleaned, had to be replaced with new OEM.

You do know that I have some grey carpets.....that also could use a deep cleaning ;)

Man....just pulled the blood caked voodoo vial off the rear view, so gonna be worried about the spirits of POs past, now.

Nasty. Think the metal is infused with, even.

Picked up a wheel!!

Less dished than the current, which is good. Hopefully doesn't need to be marinated in brake clearer and pinesol!!

Have your front mat, Joe's gray carpet and hoing that'll mitigate noise until more determined, at least be rid of olfactory hues that make one question their preference, almost like a curse!!

Chris the carpets that I have are complete setups ,front ,rear and wheelwell covers in grey cloth. No more rubber ones :(

I know, which sucks....

The carpets will work fine, Joe. As long as five or six generations of barnyard animals haven't consummated their love on them, I can make them work!

Pretty much certain the rear tub is going to change, so doubtful I'd spend the money on new rubber if they were (or would, to store.....then sell later, if history proves..) but need something to combat the tin cannish resonation of the Krawlers.

I have seen where people have shot carpet with bedliner and it didn't look too bad, better than shooting the floor.

But add carpets to the haul up!!

If I thought OE seats would work in final form, I'd ask to bring the "Turbo" tagged.....and a turbo!! Ha.

Have something else to use Ward's floor mat on. ;)

Do y'all suppose it'd be a little over the top to utilize the phenomenal air down/up times the Powervalves allow......everytime access through small rear door, was necessary?

Does put the rear tire size in perspective.....

By chance, have you been missing that bewildering piece of automotive design ingenuity, being the rear washer filler deal?

Opened box for first time and found one in the bottom of the ocean of packing peanuts.

Wish the full floor were available...

Huh? Filler? Foto?
