Hi all,

I'm newer to the older land cruiser scene, but have been looking for an FJ40. I stumbled upon Vintage Cruisers and had a really pleasant conversation with the owner Greg. He gave what felt like good insight into a separate cruiser I was looking at and then shared that he had one coming in soon that I may be interested in, but that I'd probably be happy if I went with the other one (that he's not selling). Man, what a nice guy.

...and then I read all the threads on here. Son of a...

So here's my question that I feel like I already know the answer to but want to pose. Most of the frustrations and concerns with him seem to be based on repair/restoration work. Would anyone buy from him without and service being done?

Thanks,
-Scott

Alright, this is what I expected and I think needed to hear.

You fine folks always come through.

Much appreciated, friends.
Tell all those you know as well.

I bought a rig from someone who had purchased ..through him? He “brokered” the deal that the PO had found, shipped it to his place, added a rear bench seat, reupholstered the seats, added AC (kinda?), added windshield wipers, and if he did anything else it wasn’t noticeable. Then sent it mostly running to the PO.

Surprisingly, that wasn’t the worst decision the PO made. He had a muffler shop install a 4 speed, and since it was a muffler shop, they used exhaust pipe as shims so it was stuck in 4 Hi.

The bench seat couldn’t fit an adult so I moved it back, the upholstery has already begun to tear, and the wiper wiring melted a good bit of the cowl harness and filled the cabin with smoke. Twice.

Considering he brokered the deal at a higher price than I paid after the “work”, I’d say that guy doesn’t have the best opinion of vintage cruisers now, despite talking about how nice they were.

There are better finds out there. Don’t risk it!

post #122 in this thread, the line about Greg warned me about you people, for some reason that line just sticks with me, and I giggle remembering it.
