I was wondering if you ever reproduced a plate that looks like this? They are similiar to verylate fj40s and early fj60.

To answer an earlier question I do believe this would be illegal. I think the legality problem would come with the engraving or stamping of the new number, but the plate itself might be also. Anyone doing this would be real wise to take lots of photos and keep the original. If your vehicle gets inspected the new vin tag would stand out like a sore thumb and raise lots of questions and also could not be used for identification.. Could make your life miserable trying to prove that vehicle really belongs with that vin number. Law is a little gray since they put with Fraudulent Intent but it seems many shops have gotten in trouble for replacing vin tags during restorations including getting the cars seized. So keeping lots of proof and the original would be critical and make sure it still matches your frame number. But the original not attached to the vehicle does not help a lot since it could have come from any other junker.

Are these plates still available?

Also interested + can you have them engraved also?

Thanks

Joeri

will send email

I dont know the answer to the first question.

I would think that a bunch of engraver shops would have stamp kits. I dont know how hard it is going to be to find a stamp set with the exact font. For mine...i work in a dental lab...I will be making a wax negative and making a mold for my lettering and numbers from my old plate. I will cast it in metal and have the custom stamp that is an exact match from my old plate. Or you could just have a trophy shop engrave it. It will look almost too perfect, but not a bad last option.

PM sent.. any left?

I have to figure this out.. my driver side door VIN seems different from my frame VIN. But, once I get it sorted out, could I send you a pic, and the VIN info? Would you do this casting for me? Obviously for a fee. :D

Otherwise, I'll just take the blank plate. Much thanks..

The frame vin is only a partial of the firewall vin. If I remember right the frame vin give you an idea when the frame was built. The frames can be built years before the chasis. Dan at American Toyota is very knowledgeable about vin info. He goes by Toyota dan on the forum. I hope this is helpful. I've have been arguing with Toyota of America that there is only partial vin numbers on frame but they really don't know much about the older cruisers. I gave them my vin number on an 83 fj40 and they tried telling me it was a carrola.

Any plans to make one for FJs with the 2F engine.

I'd be very interested in one of these... the idiots that resprayed the car for the previous owner painted over my VIN plate.
