Hi everyone,

I'm looking to get a realistic temperature check on the current value of my 1984 FJ60 to see if it's worth selling, as well as some advice on what priority work I should tackle next. I’d love to get your expert eyes on what I have here. I've been wanting to sell the old girl for around 10 years now but she's sentimental to the wife and her family so I've just been trying to keep the cruiser running until we figure out what's next. I don't have the time or the money to care for her the way she needs, but I'll do my best in the interim.
  • Engine: Stock 4.2L 2F inline-six
  • Transmission: 4-speed manual
  • Mileage: 198,421
  • Status: Fully drivable but temperamental
Originality: As far as I know, the truck is completely stock. Aside from standard maintenance wear items (like an aftermarket radiator and a few replacement caps), everything else has been kept as original as possible. Whenever repairs or replacements were done in the time that I've had the vehicle, OEM parts were used.
  • It starts up and runs well.
  • It has some light oil weeping/drips, presumably from aging rubber gaskets, but no severe active leaks.
  • The main quirk: The transmission can sometimes get clammed up if the vehicle has been parked long-term.
The Interior:
  • Original cloth seats are still intact (I need to do a deep evaluation of the exact material condition, but no massive missing chunks).
  • The dashboard does have the typical cracking you'd expect from an '84.
The Rust: It’s there, and I want to be totally transparent about it so I can get an accurate evaluation. From what I've seen it's the usual 60-series trouble spots:
  • Some on the rear wheel arches and rear bumper.
  • Light spotting on the front end.
  • Creeping into the creases, specifically the door jambs and along the roof gutters.
I’m working on getting a comprehensive set of photos together, including the engine and undercarriage, but I'll post what I have so far. Anyone have an idea of what the value range is right now?

Also, for the 60-series gurus here, what should my immediate focus be for preventative maintenance or preservation given the symptoms? I can only offer her some weekend time here and there, so I'm trying to judge my workload and prioritize necessities.

Thanks in advance for any insights!

No time, no money= sell. They need both. With rust, $7-$10k.

Hate to say it but if you got anything close to $7-$10k I would jump on it. When I was shopping I wouldn’t even look at 60’s from certain states/parts of the country because of the road salt and rust issues. Any rust was an automatic no for me. But if the frame is decent there’s somebody out there with a shop and a welder who will do it justice.

Plenty of life left in that one without needing body work. Get it tuned up and running well, detail it and 10k should be easy and will make someone happy as is for many more miles.
