Just talked to him. He gave a surprised reaction to the plasti dip idea, 'huh, good idea!' Also said he'd send me the number of a company in Texas that could fix them. He figures it might cost me $40-50 so will see what they say. I'm still all about just giving it a go on my own.
They are cleaning up really well so far.

Ah, OK. Good to list as many as are out there.

And, FWIW, years ago when I looked into this, my thought was to coat the diaphragm with the silicone spray stuff they use on header wrap to keep moisture out. If it'll hold up to that heat, will hold up to anything. About $20 a can on Amazon.

They're closed now but I got a name and will chat w/ the rebuilder tmrw.

Awesome, thanks I'll look into it.

There may be other Hi-Temp Silicone sprays available, that was just the one I remembered. The other idea was to use the 'Rubberized Undercoating' Spray that is very tough and flexible.

You never cease to amaze me. I tried to take mine apart and just messed it all up. I ended up spending $100 for a complete dizzy with a good diaphragm. And then sent if off to FJ40jim for a re curve. If these places actually can rebuild them, that would be awesome. Good luck with your rebuild.

Be interesting to know what the repair places use for new diaphragms or if they do some refurbishing of the old material themselves. With it needing to be flexible, you might try a couple test pieces with some diaphragm material to know the level of thickness to put on prior to committing to the ones you are going to run in the truck! I don't have any experience with either of the silicone or plasti materials...just what I read from others.

Yeah I thought that too. Guy in NJ had some material he was willing to send me but being that the diaphragms are attached to the spring cap I'd have no way to tuck it under or in. I'd have to glue it flush.
And I was thinking about how I could recreate the same sort of setup on a test piece but I'm really not sure. I have plenty of fabric but to find a semi rusty peice of metal to glue it to then dip.... ??

Here's how the metal caps meet the impregnated rubberized canvas.

Get your wallets out!!!!
I found a source for oem vacuum advances. I bought two cuz that's honestly all the extra cash I can spare... $50 each. The company bought them up at one time and they've been in an air controlled p/n labeled bags. They have about 25 avail minus the two I just bought.
You all better damn well send me finders presents!!!! :)

That's a great find! I called in hopes they had one for my FJ-40, but no luck unfortunately. They had a couple that were close though. Thanks for doing the reasearch and sharing with everyone!
Bummer. The way they spoke it sounded like they had one for a 40. Sorry man!

You are totally awesome. If you ever want to sell your spare let me know first. I live in Cali. and will need one eventually I'm sure. Good detective work. I went through this a few months back and came up empty.

To conclude:

Called them to check in...Big buyer was from Cali, not WA, I didn't ask the name. All are SOLD and Bailey herself (receptionist) bought the last just cuz. Apparently they put some gift in the box extra for me too. ;)
Way to go everyone. Merry Christmas or whatever big holiday it became today!

Well I guess I missed this boat. Anyone else know where some are hidden or want to continue the carrying the torch? I will get around to pulling mine apart one day and seeing what I can do.
