Hello,

I recently did some browsing for a kaymar rear bar for my KZJ78 and found myself on the US Kaymar website. They quoted me close to $13,000 after freight shipping from Australia. I was wondering if there were any real US vendors that stocked 70 series Kaymar bumpers?

Thank you!

Not the question you asked, but I would suggest looking at the Cruiser Outfitters 70-series swingout bumper. Made in Utah…

Some comments as the former importer/distributor for Kaymar 4WD for a number of years as Long Range America (LRA) and we also sold fuel tanks from Australia.

Kaymar was a family owned firm for several decades. During our time, the firm was sold to a corporate owner that then sold to another corporate owner, etc. We ended the business relationship and Kaymar is now offered by the same folks that own Mule Expedition in Seattle area.

I have since retired and no longer have a financial interest, but my former partners have grown LRA with front and rear bumper options for many different makes/models from The Cruiser Company in Australia. Suggest you check out some other optiions such as that mentioned above, and from Long Range America as here: 76 Series Toyota Land Cruiser - Rear Steel Tow Bar with Side Panel Hoops | Long Range America - https://longrangeamerica.com/product/76-series-toyota-land-cruiser-rear-tow-bar-side-panel-hoops-the-cruiser-company (photo below). Apparently a special order, but they ship from Idaho, not Australia.

The back of your 78 Series is very similar to that of the current 76 Series. Cannot speak to whether the Cruiser Company kit will fit, but we had a number of similar Kaymar bumpers fitted to light duty and heavy duty 77/78 Series Land Cruisers with minor modifications. I had a Kaymar on my LJ77.

Good luck.

While you are on the Long Range America website, check out their tank options. Here is an upsized LRA tank on my 77 - ask them about a package deal for tank and bumper :)

Here are some snaps of the old school Kaymar on my truck. Custom powder coat and well made. We saw deterioration of build quality after the corporate reorgs, cannot recommend based on my experience. Maybe things got better.

I'm not the OP, but I wish you were still involved in the industry...

Recently purchased a 2000MY HZJ76 (still in Japan) and finding out that trying to find US vendors for it is a near hopeless pursuit...

Not to hijack the thread, but to say "right on" regarding 70 accessories. Love to know more about the tailgate cover if you have a link. Thanks.

Even “second-hand”, the price was hard to swallow. Very impressed with the bumper itself, not so much with the finish. I have since had it re-powder coated. 😊

Hello Ward, thank you for the positive feedback. I’ve listed our website below but realize it’s very much under construction. My business partner who is working on this is getting close with launching the e-commerce side so stay tuned. That said, the tail gate cover is $175.00 plus shipping and you’ll need to provide the fasteners and rivnuts which I can provide the part numbers for. I just drop ship these from my laser cutter so PM me if you are interested.

Cheers, James

When I emailed Kaymar asking about getting a rear bumper to the US for my HZJ77 their response was polite but basically just straight-up, "no" haha

Does anyone have any experience or reservations about this one? I've been eyeballing it. You have to weld it yourself, but it has a spare tire swing-out option.

Coastal Offroad makes quality gear, but I have heard about fitment issues and modifications needing to be done with their weld yourself kits.

I have seen one of these rear bumpers on a 75 series in person and the quality was exceptional, much better than my Dobinsons rear bumper. I really like the long side wings, and the hoop protection on the sides. When/if I spring for a new bumper I will be considering this or the one on offer from @cruiseroutifit. Whomever you purchase a bumper from, make sure they know you have an LJ as modifications may need to be made.

Take your Kzj78 on a road trip and go check out the folks at LRA (20% sale happening now) and Cruiser Outfitters.

you can see more about the bumper from @cruiseroutfit here:

Seriously considering selling my ARB front Roo Bar bumper and downsizing to the Cruiser Oufitters front bumper. I really like the simplicity and lines of the @cruiseroutfit bumper and since we don’t have kangaroo’s in New England, the extra tubing seems a bit overkill.

No deer? I haven't ever hit a deer but they do appear determined ...

Great look regardless

We stock a wide variety of parts for your HZJ76 @ Cruiser Outfitters in SLC, Utah and are VERY familiar with the 1HZ and the 76 chassis. Engine parts including heads, gasket kits, timing belt kits. Cooling parts such as belts, hoses, water pump, radiator, all the parts for your axles, t-case, brakes, etc. We stock suspension systems from Old Man Emu, Dobinsons and suspension parts from Tokico, SuperPro, etc for the 76. We add 1HZ and 7x parts to our in-stock inventory regularly!

Yes, that’s a fair point regarding the deer, some seem to have a death wish for sure…. Thought the Baja Designs lights provide ridiculous coverage when traveling at night.
