Dang. Power steering has more interest than the brake booster.

Maybe...I think it's the novelty of being electric, but I'll bet your Brake booster will out sell the power steering...I know I'm buying one (Booster)!

Again, thanks for your interest in supplying us addicts with quality parts!!

Third, around late October we will be offering electric power steering for '71 and later FJ40s. I personally believe this is the way of the future:

Will this setup work with 24volt electrical systems?

No money for the booster here... Yet :) ... In a year or two I will lol

Soooo make sure you keep those in stock :)

That's on my big expense items list ... Great price on the booster!!! My definition of big expense is anything over $100 lol... This list is long.... Need to reevaluate my criteria for the list :meh:

It will, but you'd have to use either a heavy converter (50 amp), which is expensive, or a light converter + a motorcycle battery (over $300).
The cheapest option is to use a regular second battery, but it will decrease the life of the battery.

Time for a few announcements! I'll try to be brief here and let you guys check out additional info/photos etc. in my store page.

Lastly, some disappointing news. I decided to put the floor mat project on hold. The project is not cancelled, but I have not been able to achieve the level of fit and quality that is required, so I need some time to regroup.

That's all for now. There will be some other cool stuff coming over the next couple of months so stay tuned.

Man, you just busted a few folks Christmas list with that news above!.....or FREE 'ed up some money for other things, like a new brake booster perhaps?

First, the dual diaphragm brake booster will be available and ready to ship on October 1st. It's already in my warehouse but I need to do some inventory stuff first.

Second, as some you already saw in another thread, we have a few brand new reproduction TEQ mud flaps available. It's not my own product. These are actually trade-ins from a customer.

Why 1971 and later. What about early FJ40s'.

I know...However, I'd rather not spoil anyone's Christmas with a product that's not up to par. Somehow Toyota created something that is hard to replicate!

Very nice work on the steering, Roger.

That's going to be a very successful addition to the lineup, I've no doubt, one that might be responsible for a few classified ad postings of my own.

A question:

Do you see it being viable from your standpoint, to provide similar for later model Cruisers, pushing much larger tires, eliminating the need for hydro assist?

There is a kit for that, but it's a lot more involved. That is the case with traditional power steering conversion as well (search on MUD or JT Outfitters website for details).

To convert a pre '73 truck, it will require replacement of the steering gear unit. Here are a few photos for that particular conversion:

The difference is one piece factory steering column. I need to check further into the exact year. As I think about it, '71 and '72 may have the same issue.
Correct. 73 (10/72) was the first year I believe.

The short answer is no. It's not designed to replace an existing hydro assisted power steering.
In a simplistic view, you're essentially replacing the steering column of a traditional manual steering setup with one that is assisted by an electric motor.

By the way, if you're considering the ePS, I can show you a step by step installation guide with photos. PM me your email address and I'll send it to you. It won't get posted to my store site until after the product is launched.

What's different in the steering between 70 and 71?

I see the confusion the question about 71 had to do with the brake booster which the rib in the firewall is in the way on pre 71 models (7/70?). The steering box/column is the same on 68 to 72 models.
