Brand new garret ball bearing turbo has arrived, the eBay turbo lasted long enough to do it's job. Will have some fine tuning to do with regards to fuel and ignition, should be interesting

Bolted the garret on. Noticed a bit of a difference with throttle control
The eBay turbo came on so hard and quick, where the garret comes on hard but it's definitely more controllable. Needs more tuning which il do over Christmas, lost my license for speeding..sheittttttt

What boost is the garrett running?
 
Still the same mate, 10 psi,

Il be honest i havnt started it for about 2 months cause of my new work roster :( having withdrawals..
 
Been a while since a update...mainly due to working. But anyway I ran the laptop over it and did some tuning. Was running brilliant..till a loss of power cause I think the fuel pump in the tank s*** itself..but that wasn't the actual drama
Long story short, when it was on the dyno I thought i heard it knock hard (I did) and since iv been driving it a fair bit lately number 1 Pistons let go. Nothing real hectic just a bit of blow by. So ripped it out this Arv and il pull it to bits tomorrow. Not sure which way il go...replace the one piston to get it going ASAP or spend the money and go forged Pistons and rods....

Has the turbo caused this you think or just tried motor wearing out?
 
Pre Detonation on the dyno mate, rattled for only 3 seconds but was enough to do the damage.
Motor was built to 10-1 compression ratio being n/a
so I'm getting the pistons machined 60thou off the top to drop the compression back to 8/1 and with a bit of head work shel be safe as
 
Spewing at least it will be back together again running better then ever look forward to the updates...!
 
Updated after ages

New motor built, bolted in and finally tuned after a few months. Working away makes it hard :(

Put it on the dyno yesterday and am pretty happy with how it went. Had a issue halfway through tuning which was the factory fuel reg s***ting itself. Fixed it with a turbosmart reg and kept going

The new power comes on nice and hard which is impressive.

I have the new knock link G4 wired up so Il be able to catch any detonation when it happens

Retuned making 225hp at the wheels, comes on hard and cannot get enough of it. Few small issues I've had that I'm in the process of changing but with work and a few other things it's taken longer than it should. The standard exhaust gasket keeps blowing out from the heat so I've had a custom 3 layer steel gasket made and mounting it all up this weekend so should be back running properly shortly
 
I have a set of OEM exhaust manifolds...
 
So how many miles on the new turbo now? 225 is awesome. That's like 300 at the crank. What's the torque?

Hey mate, it's done about 15000kms, still going strong.
Torque came in a 520nms at peak power at 3200rpm.
It's awesome to drive.
